By Jackie Papandrew When my children were younger, our family went through a time of serious Trekkiness. Each night, we’d curl up together on the couch and watch a rerun of Star Trek: The Next Generation. That’s the Star Trek show in which the elegant Capt. Picard would, in his rich, Shakespearean baritone, command his crew to “Make it so.” No matter how daunting the task, Picard’s space-alien-butt-kicking crew would comply, and the galaxy would be safe for another day. When the show was over... EUGENE, Ore. (AP) -- A pet store owner is calling a police sergeant a hero for saving her from the coils of a 12-foot Burmese python doing its best to turn her into a meal. A friend who happened to be at the store kept the snake off her neck and body while police were called. And when Sgt. Ryan Nelson rushed into the store... Read Full Story

Wonder Dog Takes Out the Trash We all know owning a dog can be a huge responsibility, with feeding, walking, veterinary care and, of course, loving. But a canine in Hagerstown, Maryland is lending a paw when it comes to some of those duties. "Ronin," the 5-year-old Bull-Mastiff, is gentle, affectionate, obedient and he doesn't need a human being to take him for a walk or to take out the garbage. "I don't have to walk with a leash," said owner Lloyd Weedon. "From the first moment he came to... Read Full Story

EAST LAKE, FL — The whole thing apparently started when Poe the cat was prowling outside and the big alligator followed it home. When Poe slipped onto the back porch Monday night, the 220-pound gator came along, crashing through a screen and passing a potted ficus tree and litter box. Tailing Poe, the 8-foot, 8-inch reptile crawled over the blue carpeting, through an open sliding glass door and past the green suede sofa in the living room. Poe ended up someplace safe. The gator ended up in... Read Full Story
