IN PURSUIT OF HAPPY SANITY
What is Sanity without Happiness? Don’t let someone become a priority in your life, When you are just an option in their life … Relationships works best when they are balanced. Never explain yourself to anyone, Because the person who likes you doesn’t need it, And the person who dislikes you won’t believe it When you keep saying you are busy, Then you are never free. When you keep saying you have no time, Then you will never have time. When you keep sating that you will do it tomorrow, Then ... Read Full Story
ON A HIATUS
janshim-jerudong
Psst! Just a whisper to let you know I won’t be posting here for a while until I’ve cleared the massive backlog of recent wedding, commercial and event shoots. Occasionally, freelancing takes its toll and you discover you’re all alone because when it comes to artistic rendering, it’s a personal business—and no one can lend a helping hand. Instead, you can find some of my recent work at JAN SHIM PHOTOGRAPHY on Facebook or FOLLOW ME on Twitter for the oh-so-occasional up... Read Full Story
FOREST VOICES BY NOAH JACKSON
So I put my supposed blog-posting hiatus on hold for a good cause—to promote Noah Jackson’s art and his commitment to environmental conservation efforts through photography. I believe great photography inspires and changes lives in a positive and meaningful way and I’m privileged to have met the artist whose efforts I can relate in a small way with the PENAN greeting cards. Many thanks to Hans Dols of Panaga Natural History Society for the invite! …. the money raised from y... Read Full Story

DELIGHTING YOU ALWAYS
Canon’s marketing slogan DELIGHTING YOU ALWAYS comes in all shapes and sizes and the interpretation of its meaning is often anything but in the literal sense. How’s how I see it a little differently. “De-” denotes removal or reversal so De-lighting means removal of light which means no Speedlite flash is needed. Because its high ISO performance is so brilliantly (pun intended) implemented, Canon “reverse” engineered light into your pictures without use of f... Read Full Story

GIVING IT OUR 400%
This year Chung Ching Middle School celebrates its 71st anniversary and as early as a month and a half ago, Primary section supervisor asked if I would be available to handle photography of the event. I didn’t immediate given an answer because I had to juggle a number of prior engagements which hadn’t been confirmed. A week before the event, I invited Kantalensa, Gembo and Gavin to join me in an evening of fun after obtaining permission from the school to do so. Instead of giving ... Read Full Story
ZIPPITY DOO “DUH”
In this lifetime, I’ve owned a dozen pairs of denims from various  makes and styles. I’ve had jeans by Giordano, Emporio Armani, Esprit, FCUK, Guess and Levi’s in no particular order or preference. No other piece of clothing has so much versatility and wear which makes them my preferred choice (unless the dress code requires otherwise) simply because I kneel and squat a lot. And frankly, I’ve not had any problems with my jeans until now. My favourite pair is the Espri... Read Full Story
I SURVIVED MANIC THURSDAY
I survived manic run-and-gun Thursday and lived to tell the tale! On the surface, it seemed like another day when I left the house early and came home late and it usually only involved one or two assignments. Ordinarily yes but yesterday was extraordinarily packed in that I had scheduled what was originally a week’s worth of work and commutes into one day and finished them all nicely with time to enjoy Thai dishes. It began with the Standard Chartered Bank’s ‘Seeing Is Belie... Read Full Story
THE SUNFLOWER
Sunflowers have a distinctive and brilliant appearance and a quick check on the web tells me they were first grown in Central and South America for their usefulness in providing oil and food than they were appreciated for their beauty. I don’t normally think much of these flowers but seeing how the weather hasn’t been quite forgiving recently, their bright yellow petals begged for attention on an otherwise dull and gray afternoon. Driving my kids to tuition, I stopped by the roads... Read Full Story
