Doctors are calling us!

This month Shaun and I decided to post stories from some of our clients on how they used what they learned to increase and stablize their practices. I hope you find this story to be helpful in your endeavors.

We started out our private practice with just myself and an office manager. Within 18months we opened an additional clinic and now have a total of 8 therapists and 7 staff.

My career in healthcare prior to private practice was hospital-based: I started in acute care and then I progressed into sub-acute care and outpatient orthopedics and then I did a few years of home care, and then I opened up my own practice.

Our clinics are on a unique location on the barrier islands on the east coast of Florida, so in that sense there is not too much competition in our area. The main competition is Health South and a little bit the hospital because we are unable to get on there as a preferred provider, or rather we are not able to see any of their patients because they like to keep it in-house. So in that effect they are our competition but most of the outpatient clinics are Health South.

Before coming to Measurable Solutions we were going out and knocking on doors and visiting doctors’ offices and just doing cold calls. We also had word-of-mouth from patients referring other patients. I also called people that I knew in the business and let them know that I was open and this let the word spread.

I heard about Measurable Solutions from a staff member who read Shaun’s article in Advance Magazine for Physical Therapists and he brought it to my attention. We called for the free CD, listened to it and decided to come to The New Patient Course.

We were just extremely unorganized and chaotic and we were going through a lot of stress. Measurable Solutions came to us at the right time, that’s for sure. We had a good organization going, we had all the right elements, but we were just lacking that one detail. And now since beginning Measurable Solutions, our patient load has probably doubled and the chaos and the stress – I’m able to take more time off, which is great. At night when I go home I am just a lot less stressed out, things are flowing better, I can be away from the office and not have to worry about things that are going on. It has taken a lot of burden off my shoulders.

After The New Patient Course we had a lot of new physician referrals – from physicians that did not know that we were there. Basically it was excellent because it allowed me to free up my time rather than going out and knocking on doors and doing lunches. We were able to hit a lot larger target with physicians and it is amazing how we are getting physicians that are 15-20 miles away who are now referring to our clinic. So it allowed me to have a lot more time to be in the clinic without doing lunches and we saw a big increase in the amount of referring physicians that now know about our practice and are calling to ask us about our practice and are referring patients to our practice. They are calling us rather than us having to calling them.

Since The New Patient Course and subsequent executive training through Measurable Solutions, we see that our clinic has more direction and less complaining and more production. The production definitely went through the roof. The staff has a clear idea of where their position is within the company, what they are supposed to do and a way to measure their production, which is good. There is a lot less stress and I’m not going around putting out fires anymore.

I have a Bachelor’s degree in business and economics and was in restaurant management before I went into physical therapy. Nothing in school has taught me about the reality of the world – you know, Measurable Solutions’ training is definitely something that can be better applied versus the business schools’ kind of broad education. This is like a mini-college! It is more specific to your area and you can take that knowledge and immediately apply it versus trying to grasp it out of the air. This is more the meat and potatoes of what you need to know and it is geared for just physical therapists, which is excellent too.

I knew what I wanted to do, but I didn’t know how to do it. Measurable Solutions basically gave me the how-to.

I would definitely recommend to private practice owners that they start by taking The New Patient Course and I’d definitely say go for it if you want less stress, if you want to see more new patients and you want to improve your survivability in the future. Increase production, money flow, decrease stress, increase income. I’d definitely recommend it to anybody if they are either in a stagnant position or even if they are a growing company, I mean it just basically makes everything so much less chaotic and much clearer. You are more able to get through your day with less stress. It has been a huge difference, not only in our business life but also in our personal life.
