Why so Long?
June 2008, Why so long? As I've been away from writing for so long, I wonder why the lack of inspiration to share what is happening with Dylan.  He turned 5 in April and in real terms is making slow, steady progress, for a child who is autistic.  Perhaps it is the realization that his healing process will be slow is what grinds my heart.  After all, don't we live in a society of "instant gratification?" There are times when he looks at me and his eyes shine with that sparkle of... Read Full Story
What God Reveals...
In addition to being a full time estate planning attorney, I am an instructor on estate planning at a local university.  During one of my classes I was reading a portion of a document to my class that concerned something called Special Needs Trusts.  Special Needs Trusts are designed to keep money, that would otherwise pass at a parent's death to a child, in trust to meet the those "special" expenses that disabled and handicapped persons otherwise have, without jeopardising the government... Welcome to our wikizine called "Grace Abounds - Autistic Soul"
September 24, 2006 - An Epiphany... It was as if a dream. I was watching my autistic 3 year old son Dylan, hard at play, when it hit me, and I asked God, “Lord, am I autistic with you?” The response was not so much audible, as a knowing understanding and the response was – “Yes, you are.” To understand the epiphany, one needs to understand what the term autism, means and how a person who is autistic relates to his or her world.Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, defines it as follows:Autism is... Summer 2007...
I have come to believe that Dylan, our autistic son, is in the process of healing.  Like the blind man healed by Jesus, who had his sight restored in stages, slowly, and who at first saw men and said they "look like trees walking around (Mark 8:24)," Dylan's awareness of the world, in light of others being part of it, is slowly getting clearer.  Praise God. Yet as he heals, I've learned yet another lesson about what it is to be human.  As Dylan's awareness increases, his preoccupation... Read Full Story

Father's Day
Father's Day... (2007) It just hit me that my son Dylan will not know that this Sunday is Father's Day. Dylan will not know that it is a celebration during which children all over our nation take time to give thanks for their dads.  Autism doesn't allow Dylan, even at age 4, to speak, communicate or understand, the concept of a father.  Oh, he will say "Daddy," but it is safe to say that it is a word, without meaning. So, I ask myself, does this mean that Dylan doesn't love me, doesn't... Read Full Story

A Voice in the Desert ...
April 16, 2007.As I've previously stated, Dylan, our now 4 year old son, is Autistic.  Autism is a pervasive developmental disorder, that causes a person to be perpetually self absorbed.  In some cases, such as Dylan, a person is unable to communicate or socialize with others outside themselves.  It is like they are alone in their own world, and seemingly in control of it.Dylan was diagnosed as being autistic (pervasive developmentally disabled) almost a year and a half ago, and has been in... Regarding Easter...
It is amazing how commercialized it has become.  Indeed most Christians, or people who call themselves Christians, only really have a minimal understanding of what Easter really is about - they think of bunnies and eggs.  However, it is truly a season of great humbleness as well as celebration.   The best way I know to explain it (and I'm praying right now for God to guide me) is that because of man's (Adam and Eve) sin, and sinful nature we can't know God.  Because, the Bible tells us...
