In yet another “get on the band wagon” move, many of us in the evangelical church have become uncomfortable with the use of the term “Christian” as our self-description. As the above series of videos point out, “Christian” has become synonymous with false piety, judgmentalism, and a general attitude of isolationism from the “real” world. As [...] Read Full Story
I took a little heat for this post, in which I complained about more than praised U2’s new album, No Line on the Horizon. If you’ll recall, one of my chief complaints with the album is that it really presents nothing new; instead, I claimed that U2 is kind of rewriting their greatest hits. It seems that they are comfortable with this, as this interview from Pitchfork.com seems to point out. Notice the line about “chopping down the Joshua Tree.” Was I onto something ... Read Full Story
I was in a little band during my college years. We really only played one or two actual concerts, but we recorded a lot of original…and mostly crappy…music. But, in the interest of nostalgia, my buddy Dan Murray has created a Reverbnation profile of our band. So, take a listen to Saved, and let me know what you think–but please be kind! I hope that I’ve come a long way since then.

I’m not so sure exactly how I feel about Twitter, the new social-microbloggy-makes-no-money utility that has many of us in the blogosphere tied to our laptops or Blackberries. A part of me just doesn’t want to keep up with it, but whether I like it or not, Twitter is here, and though it may be a fad, it’s probably not going anywhere anytime soon.
All this prompts me to wonder about something. Would it be possible to use what most consider a self-indulgent utility to spread... Read Full Story
Previously, I’ve discussed the main reason many young evangelical Christians leave the faith. The problem that many apostates have with Christianity is the veneration of the Bible as the completely perfect Word of God, without flaw or blemish. When a curious person begins to notice apparent contradictions in the text, often they conclude that the faith is based upon faulty foundations, and they abandon it.

I realize that I owe DagoodS another post in the series, Christianity’s Biggest Difficulties, and I’ll return to that soon.
Recently, I’ve been jarred by the apparent apostasy of some very good friends. Through the years, all of us hear of the unfortunate “backsliding” of those who were once faithful Christians, but that is not what I am describing here. Most “backslidden” Christians don’t deny the truth of the Christian faith; most come to the... Read Full Story
For many years, I have been enamored (like most of us in the “Post-Modern” Evangelical church) with the innovative Dublin band U2. At some point in my life, I have owned every one of their studio albums, and I have studied and absorbed their music with a passion that I’ve devoted to few secular bands. Needless to say, I was excited to hear the latest album, No Line on the Horizon. This album, though I hate to admit it, left me disappointed.
By now most of us have seen the... Read Full Story
