The Milestoneworship Challenge - Twittering the Gospel
I’m not so sure exactly how I feel about Twitter, the new social-microbloggy-makes-no-money utility that has many of us in the blogosphere tied to our laptops or Blackberries. A part of me just doesn’t want to keep up with it, but whether I like it or not, Twitter is here, and though it may be a fad, it’s probably not going anywhere anytime soon.
All this prompts me to wonder about something. Would it be possible to use what most consider a self-indulgent utility to spread really important messages - I mean, more important messages than “making a tuna sandwich” or “watching Season One of Bewitched on DVD?” As a Christian, I believe the most important message that we can share is the Gospel, the truth that God loves mankind and wants to have a relationship with us that is only possible through belief in His Son, Jesus - but is it possible to communicate that idea in under 140 characters?
The Challenge
So, here’s the challenge. I’d like to see how we might Tweet the Gospel. Many of you out there are incredibly creative, and are real wordsmiths, so I am confident that you have ideas about how we can present the truth of the Christian faith in 140 characters or less. Think of it this way: could you present a complete picture of the Christian gospel in one sentence? If you are a Twitterer. simply tweet your Gospel presentation with the tag #mwgospel, or if you are not, feel free to leave your idea as a comment below this post. Be as creative as you can, but try to avoid sounding like one of those obnoxious church signs (i.e. “Think it’s hot here? Try Hell.”) that we’ve all seen on little country roads. Remember, you want to be as complete as possible in your presentation of the Gospel.
In a few days, I’ll post the most creative and complete Tweets here at Milestoneworship, and we’ll vote on who presented the best version of the Gospel. The winner of the challenge will receive a free copy of Milestoneworship’s CD “He Remains Near” shipped via the ultra-reliable USPS. I hope that this will be fun, but ultimately, I hope that the readers here at MSW might actually get a few Twitterers to think about the really important issues in life and about One who meets them where they are.
So, that’s the challenge. Any takers? Any questions?
