Swartz, the Bear-Brawling Dachshund Passes
Our hearts go out to the friends and family of 'Swartz,' the heroic red smooth Dachshund who made local news about 5 years ago when he charged a mama bear that was in his territory near Alcoa, Tennessee.  He suffered a bite and broken ribs from the incident, but recovered to live to the age of 12, finally succombing to seizures, prostate cancer, and Cushing's disease.  His family is rightly devastated.  RIP little man.  Read more about him at The Daily Times. AN APOLOGY to a Great Lover
AN APOLOGYto a Great Loverby Frances Meusel for the American Dachshund, April, 1967Before she reached that state of being Utterly and Universally Irresistible, we took Schatzie to stay at Ernie Carlson's.
