Art of the Heart

I thought I'd offer a progress report on my work applying the principles of The Law of Attraction in my life. The idea behind the law is profoundly simple: You get (in life) exactly what you put out. Your energy is matched entirely and precisely - whatever it is you walk around thinking and feeling is what you will produce for yourself in the future. The idea is to transform those experiences you don't want by imagining better/happier things happening to you. The more you are able to feel wonderful things happening to you, the higher the probability is that they will.
Just because the idea is simple doesn't mean it's easy to do. When I'm feeling stuck in a dark and crappy attitude, seeing the light can be like digging my way out of an avalanche. I'm into some of this stuff deep. And please don't get me wrong: I consider myself a positive person. I understand the power of forgiveness (of myself and others), and I enjoy thinking the best about people. I feel grateful for all the people who are in my life.
And yet, when I started monitoring my feelings, I was shocked to learn how many negative ones I allow into my gut. Little, sneaky negative feelings. Not huge ones, but they were there, slithering in like slippery little worms. I had no idea! Try it yourself for awhile, just to see. Everytime you have a bad feeling, take note. At the end of the day, what is your tally? Have you felt wonderful at every moment of the day? For me, it's a lot like dieting. I must watch everything I eat and weigh myself daily. If I don't, it's pretty much a non-starter. I'll stay unconcious about food in order to indulge myself in it, so I gain weight, but then I don't pay attention so I can eat more food, and it cycles. Feelings are like that. They feed on themselves.
When those feelings are strong and negative, sometimes it's the best I can do just to acknowledge it: "I'm stuck in a crappy attitude and it's easy to see why this keeps happening to me." So I do get it - the Law of Attraction  is like boomerang karma - you will see the fruit of your pyschic labors in no time.
I have a little trick to counter my attitudinal garbage, and I want to get better at it. I have this little Corgie dog named Dyli (rhymes with silly). She models happiness better than any creature, human or otherwise, I have ever known. If she were a human, we'd have to make her a saint. She never complains no matter how hard the going gets, and she always wears a smile on her whole body (translation: tongue sticking way out, corners of mouth and ears up, her whole butt wagging!) If ever I need to smile, I think of Dyli. For me, it's impossible not to when I picture her. 
So now, if I'm feeling raunchy about something, I immediately start thinking of my dog. I think of her long enough for the happy feeling to sink in, then I switch my thoughts back to the item that was snagging me and envelop it in Dyli-Love. Sort of like supplanting the mind-weeds with flowers. I imagine the event that's bugging me while wearing my Dyli attitude, and it helps me feel better. She is, at times, a very busy little dog! :)
This is working so far with all my negative attitudes below an 8 on a scale of 1-10. If it's a particularly sticky item though, the best I can do is to stop thinking about it. Man, I hate suffering, and now that I know I'm the only one responsible for it, I want to stop it. I'm human, so I'll never be perfect, but I really want to transform most of my negative thinking into happier thoughts and feelings. I understand that truly happy (and successful and powerful) people habituate the act of feeling good. Just ask Bob Proctor. I had the unique opportunity to speak to him personally at a movie premiere recently. He inspires with his consistent happiness. He makes it look soooo easy, and it's contagious. I felt uplifted just being around him.
