de Kooning biography

de Kooning: An American Master is one of those books that I started a long time ago...I read one or two hundred pages then put it down for some of my beloved airport mystery trash, and it ended up at the bottom of my stack of "still reading, just not right now" books. (Note - this stack is at an all-time low right now - I think I only have 4 going. A real achievement for me). Anyhow - picked it back up a week or two ago and got completely, totally hooked. Reading about de Kooning in the '50s... Read Full Story
Wedding gift ideas
From:  d3.typepad.com
Well, it's June. Which means wedding season is in full swing. I'm still behind on last summer's weddings, but I know that with bebe on the way I better get ahead early for this year's tour...a few finds: 1. Deer in Forest deco plate: from Tord Boontje, this fun decorative plate. Comes in red on white or grey on white; I prefer the latter as a gift (I love red, but it's just not for everyone). Porcelain, 13" diameter, $60.50 at Sprout Home. 2. While we're at Sprout, I also like (and... Read Full Story
Sexy industrial desk magic
From:  d3.typepad.com
I made a pre-baby run to IKEA yesterday, and while I was yet again disappointed with their child furniture options, I noticed this along the way. (Not to worry, despite that disappointment we still managed to spend a boatload on new storage cabinets for the garage. I'm being subjected to a major filing/organization project by the cruel taskmaster, aka my husband.) Back to the desk - I hadn't seen it before, online or off, and I'm here to tell you it's really sexy. A stainless desk that has... Read Full Story

Got a great design gift from my amazing pals at work last week...the Oeuf Baby Lounger in chocolate and light blue. I had my eye on this lo those many years ago when I had Will, but didn't manage to convince anyone to buy it for me last time 'round. Luckily I have these nice co-workers now who've hooked me up. Can't wait to get it set up in the living room... Tried to find the best price...I registered for it on Amazon, where it was $98, otherwise the best I could find was $97...but the... Read Full Story
Score! Chad Robertson painting
From:  d3.typepad.com
So I had a great success at the silent auction portion of the Venice Art Walk yesterday. (My husband loves how I think of auctions as "victories," "wins" or "successes" rather than just purchases...). Anyhow - picked up this fabulous portrait by Chad Robertson. It caught my eye during my first walk-through yesterday morning (yes, there were multiple walk-thru's). Came home, did a little homework on Mr. R., liked what he had to say (and what the art world, and the LA Times, had to say about... Read Full Story
Eames stamps
From:  d3.typepad.com
Ooh, this is cool. Hope I can still get my hands on them...USPS is releasing a sheet of stamps in tribute to Charles & Ray Eames. They look gorgeous. According to the Eames Office, Tuesday June 17th will be the first date of issue of the stamps. I'll have delivered a baby 3 days earlier, so probably won't be lining up at the window for them myself. Here's more from the Eames office on their plans for the day: Tuesday, June 17th, is the First Date of Issue of a new pane of stamps by the... Read Full Story
General blogging/social media thoughts
From:  d3.typepad.com
So I've been blogging for 8 months now. I'm not a pro, but I have learned a few interesting (and generally obvious) things: Blogging is a serious commitment. I'm glad I made it, and frustrated when I can't meet it; I'm having fun learning creative ways to integrate my professional life (as VP Marketing for the Rubicon Project), my design passion in my personal life, and my social media life (the ever-increasing amounts of time I spend on Facebook & Twitter connecting with friends...
