General blogging/social media thoughts

From:  d3.typepad.com

So I've been blogging for 8 months now. I'm not a pro, but I have learned a few interesting (and generally obvious) things:

  • Blogging is a serious commitment. I'm glad I made it, and frustrated when I can't meet it;
  • I'm having fun learning creative ways to integrate my professional life (as VP Marketing for the Rubicon Project), my design passion in my personal life, and my social media life (the ever-increasing amounts of time I spend on Facebook & Twitter connecting with friends, colleagues, etc.), hence the recent appearance of my Twitter updates on this blog
  • Traffic and regular posts are directly correlated;
  • I've got decent coverage from Google. I think I've learned to effectively title my posts to clearly convey their content. Early on I was more focused on being clever with my titles. Today, I tell you what's really inside, and it brings me more readers.
  • the Rubicon Project is making me money on this blog! Woohoo! Nice to a) get a little return on my effort and b) see that the product I'm out there pitching every day really works. I do love those increases to my PayPal account each month...

Okay - not sure why I feel compelled to share when my readers just really care about design, but in the event this is useful, enjoy.
