When Chiefs Meet Dragons…

The Dayton Dragons hosted the Peoria Chiefs in Class A Minor League play yesterday, and right off the bat (pun intended) things went downhill. After 2 hit batsmen and a brushback pitch, Dayton manager Donnie Scott had had enough. His emergence from the dugout naturally brought out Peoria manager Carmelo Martinez. After arguing over whether a foot massage or chai tea was more relaxing, Martinez shoved Scott, and then all Dayton broke loose (Have you ever been to Hell? It’s pretty close to Dayton, I’m sure). In what was probably one of the most gutless, cowardly acts in a lifetime of sports brawls, Peoria pitcher Julio Castillo fired a ball toward the Dayton dugout. He missed (I guess he’d better start looking for another line of work) and, his throw landing “juuuuuust a bit outside,” struck a fan in the stands. The fan was treated and released at a local hospital.
