As it is Thanksgiving, it is timely to pay homage to the cranberry. It is so much more than an accoutrement for turkey. Cranberries, a source of vitamin C that really come into their own as an antioxidant due to the high presence of polyphenols. A University of Maine study compared cranberries to 22 other fruits and found that they had the highest number of phenols, leaving red grapes standing. And in a University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth study of 20 different fruit juices, cranberry juice... Read Full Story

Better known as a starchy side dish than a skincare ingredient, potatoes are a turkey’s most loyal posse on the Thanksgiving table. But do they also warrant a place in your cosmetics? Potatoes are stuffed with benefits to help you achieve clearer and younger-looking skin. Its abundant vitamins and minerals (potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, vitamin B, and vitamin C among them) can be just as nourishing for your skin as your body. Should you be telling your skin to eat its veggies... Read Full Story

I was very excited and happy to hear I was going to try and review Olive’s Organic Botanicals Facial Replenisher Cleanser and Facial Replenisher Moisturizer Carrot Seed. I am always searching for a cleanser that takes off makeup and leaves my skin clean but not dry. This has been nearly impossible. Most of time I am either left with mascara smudges or a Sahara Desert itchy red face. I know I should use a makeup remover but most days when I come home from work I cannot... Read Full Story

Who doesn’t want fuller, voluptuous, Angelina Jolie-esque lips? I certainly do, which is why I was delighted to try out the new 3-in-1 lip treatment from Osmotics Cosmeceuticals. Now, I have to fully disclose that I have approached anti-aging lip plumpers in the past with a fair amount of skepticism: without the help of Xanax and a sharp needle in my doctor’s office, I was dubious that I’d be able to see a visible difference in my smile. But I was pleasantly surprised.

I received an email from Truth in Aging, letting me know that I had been chosen to review the new RevitaLash mascara. Usually I’m pretty excited about trying new products, but this time my excitement was at an all-time low. Maybe it was due to the rather lackluster words that had been chosen to inform me of my new product to review: “Its all yours if you weren’t put off by Laura’s review.”
Not too encouraging! But being the beauty and makeup ju... Read Full Story

Lines around my lip came recently and with an uncalled for aggression. So I was thrilled when Your Best Face, the makers of my favorite eye cream Correct, told me they were walking on a new product for lip lines. Even more exciting was that YBF decided to work with Truth In Aging’s VIP members on a pre-launch test. The VIPs went back to YBF with valuable insights that have inspired an even better product, officially called Define, that will be available for the first time, along with s... Read Full Story

Ever think that people may have been murdered in the making of your cosmetics? According to recent news reports, a gang in Peru has been killing people and draining fat from their corpses to sell on the black market to cosmetics companies. Police involved in the investigation have traced the fat to intermediaries in Peru’s capital, Lima, and believe that it was destined for cosmetics laboratories in Europe. Like us, you are probably thinking, what the fat?
As outrageous as this scenari... Read Full Story

The serum gods are smiling on me these days. There have been so many recent scores – such as the impressive Nutrition Cell CPR – that I shall probably have to update our Five Best antiaging serums in the non too distant future. One of the latest to achieve recommended status is Osmosis Replenish ($38 for 30ml), which I’d say is powerful enough to make its mark on full-blown wrinkles as well as fine lines. This is one skin smoother.
Osmosis Replenish has already caused a bi... Read Full Story

I think Epicuren Man is one of the most underrated brands in men’s skincare. It doesn’t have much presence (you can’t find it anywhere it seems), which is a shame as it’s an incredibly competent line, using its very own enzyme vitamin protein complexes. Many of the products are pretty specific to skin problems; the one I like is Skintopia Power Equalizing Oil Control.
Those who suffer from oily skin (like me) will be completely pleased with the Epicuren Man Equalizing... Read Full Story
