Richard Seymour is Re-Signed. Who's Next?

In great news for Raider fans everywhere, Richard Seymour has signed a multi-year extension making the 1st round draft pick we gave up this off-season seem all the more worthwhile. One of my greatest fears was having this guy either pack up and leave or retire before we even got to see those dirty Patriots use our first-round pick. I'm just glad we didn't give the Patriots a top ten pick that they could trade down into more draft picks than current players on that team. They already have like... Read Full Story

I'll be coming at you live via internet (duh) for the duration of the Big Game. Early acknowledgements include Nnamdi Asomugha's candidacy for the Walter Payton Award, given to the NFL's most charitable and upstanding individual. The award went to Madieu Williams, safety for the Vikings, but any of these nominees deserve the recognition for all they do. During Asomugha's tenure with the Oakland Raiders (which I fear is drawing to a close), I've read a great deal about his contributions to the... Read Full Story
US Steel Heinously Requests that Steeler Fan-Employees Come to Work

Here's a NON-story of the year for you. I started hearing about this on ESPN Radio last night and my opinion on the matter has not wavered one bit. If you're too lazy to read the whole article, here's a snippet... It's only natural that Pittsburgh-area steelworkers would want to watch the Pittsburgh Steelers in Sunday's Super Bowl. But a U.S. Steel memo says workers in the Clairton, Irvin and Edgar Thomson mills who miss work Sunday or Monday "without just cause" will face "severe... Read Full Story

Whoa, whoa! Bite my tongue on the whole "slow news week" bit. This just in from Forbes.com: Al Davis, owner extraordinaire, has taken the TOP spot in this year's list of 20 Most Disliked People in Sports. That's right, more people hate Davis for being an uptight, egotistical maniac than hate Michael Vick for drowning dogs in the bathtub or Tiger Woods banging a Las Vegas hostess while his wife Read Full Story

While my resolve to keep this train a-rollin has not diminished (like it has before), things are pretty slow right now in Oakland due to this little event called the Super Bowl. It's never much fun to talk about the Pro Bowl, but since there were a couple of Raiders there it's worth mentioning somewhat. Nnamdi Asomugha (who may not be a Raider for long, sadly) was obviously named a starter but did not play, presumably due to injury. Hey, the fact checker took the night off. Richard Seymour... Maaaybe Next Year. Maybe?

I was just looking through some of my old blog posts , when I noticed a line that was pretty applicable right about now... Enjoy the big game, and here's hoping the West Coast is represented again next year, preferably by some team we often talk about around here. Yeah, so much for the hopes there. As the years go on, it's looking less and less likely that a West Coast team will appear in the Super Bowl in, oh, the next 15 years. The Chargers are old and on a serious downturn (if not for... Has enough time passed by? Am I jinxing myself? Since the season ended, speculation has run rampant that Tom Cable was in danger of losing his job, thereby ushering a new coach, new assistants, and a new system to underachieve under. First there were meetings scheduled, then there weren't, then there were again, but Al and Tom never seemed to get on to that topic that the meeting was originally scheduled for. It happens. Just brought in to handle the offensive coordinator duties is Hue... Read Full Story

Deadspin, the world's most popular sports blog, has posted a series called "The 2009 Oakland Raiders: A Season of Failure" including some rather red-faced moments the franchise has endured over the last year. Note: If you're one of those really serious fans who can't stand to hear someone talk bad about your Oakland Raiders, you probably shouldn't read the above article. Also, I commend you and worry that you must be angry quite often. Some of these are indeed quite embarrassing, such as... Read Full Story
Scouting Report Numero Uno - Eric Berry, S (Tennessee)

Welcome to The Home Field's very first scouting report. If the Raiders aren't making any of us hopeful for the playoffs any time soon, at least it's a lot of fun to analyze and estimate which college superstar will be shipped to Oakland next. Last year was a bit of an exception, with the Raiders opting to take the eighth or ninth most promising wide receiver as the first receiver taken. To be fair, Heyward-Bey was thought of then as the fourth or fifth best receiver available, but I digress... Read Full Story
