Kwame to resign!
Praise Jesus! Someone announced this yesterday at work; everyone was glad for the news. It finally feels like there may in fact be some silver lining to that Detroit cloud. From an NPR News in Brief article: Detroit Mayor Pleads Guilty To Obstruction; Will Resign "Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick pleaded guilty Thursday to obstruction of justice charges, agreeing to resign from office in the nation's 11th largest city as part of a plea deal with prosecutors. Kilpatrick, 38, will serve four... Read Full Story

making lists and taking names
There are so many things I still need (or want) to blog about: Library X's 3 weeks closure, going Up North, general thoughts on life, but I instead have spent the whole of tonight adding pictures to Facebook. So, this is the best that I could do as I waited for pictures to load. I was tagged by Miss Cellaneous, (who has rejoined Blog world, much to my delight!) so here goes: Four jobs I’ve had: Librarian Short Order cook Clown (for one day--I really am scared of clowns) Movie theater... More nuts-sos in the news this week. A BoingBoing article stated that, "A judge has ordered JoAn Karkos of Lewiston, Maine to return two copies of It's Perfectly Normal: Changing Bodies, Growing Up, Sex and Sexual Health, which she checked out the Lewiston and Auburn public libraries last year. In September, Karkos sent letters to the libraries, including checks to pay for the cost of the books. The letters said, in part, 'I have been sufficiently horrified of the illustrations and sexually... Read Full Story

certain words make anything funnier
From the Polite Librarian's 8/21/08 blog that made me AWKWARDLY burst out laughing at work this week: Doodles, Passing time with Librarians can pass the soul-crushing hours spent in committee meetings by doodling in the margins of their notepads. If you're looking for inspiration, consider doodling some of the following pictures: a reconfigured floorplan for your office or workspace caricatures of the other people in the room Pac-Man (eating bullet points) flowers and rainbows... Today I subbed at Library Y, for the first time since before the summer. While all the librarians were working on the end of summer party I was manning the reference desk when I had this lovely conversation with a patron we shall call, "Lazy Mom," L.M. for short. L.M.: Hi. We are looking for your books for fifth graders. Where would those be? Me: Are you looking for a particular subject in non-fiction? Or are you interested in a fiction book?L.M.: Oh, just anything for a fifth grader... Read Full Story
