Owning A Business Rocks My Socks Off
AND IT CAN ROCK YOURS OFF TOO!
I’ve officially owned a business now for a couple weeks. It has changed the way I talk with people and it has changed the way I look at things.
1: I look at money differently. Is this money better spent eating out, or should I buy supplies for Duchess and Duke?
2: I look at people differently. When someone at work gives me flippant attitude I no longer take it personal. I think of them as crabby little people with nothing else going on and nothing better to do than yell at someone trying to service your issue.
BUT
It has changed the way people look and deal with me. For instance when I hired the girl who did my logo from Elance.com – I had multiple people promising me the world and offering to make me happy if I’d hire them. It was a nice change than the other way around at the day job.
I wake up in the morning motivated to get through the drudgery so that I can come home and work on my escape plan. I have a mission now and that is to launch the soap company and free myself from the day job.
You can do it too and I’ll show you how. Bookmark my blog and come back often.
The process is simple:
1: Brainstorm on what you like to do. What interests you?
2: Find a hobby associated with what you like to do. I encourage people to actually make something with their own hands, be it a bar of soap or a wooden shave brush handle to a piece of music and then sell it.
3: Learn how to produce whatever it is that you have selected and begin producing as much of it as you can in whatever free time you have.
4: Learn about business structures and become official. http://iwillescape.com/blog/2009/09/19/choosing-your-business-structure/
5: Build an online store and sell your product through forums, speciality websites such as etsy.com and ebay, and market through word of mouth campaigns, friends, family, co-workers, google ads, cross promotion, etc.
6: If you have digital content, such as beats for DJs to use you can skip this step, but if you make tangible goods then once your business grows large enough you can locate a contract manufacturer and after proper negotiations, have them manufacturer your product and ship it to you, while you handle fulfillment. If you continue to grow you may consider hiring a fulfillment company.
7: Quit Your Job – if you want to, or keep working and just enjoy the extra money however you see fit.
