Purchased the Onkyo TX-SR606 7.1 end of Oct. 2008. Shipping from Amazon was great. Set-up was a little confusing and required a phone call to Onkyo to finish. Everyone's comments about this receiver being hot were totally accurate. We have to leave the door open on the cabinet to keep the heat levels down. Receiver worked great until 5/1/09 when the HDMI output quit working. Onkyo customer service walked us thru several tests and resets without success. Our greatest complaint is there ... This machine does it all. Could not get any better. Great sound, Is everything it says it will do. Better than our Sony in the back room. Has more HDMI Hookups, s-videos, optical, and audios inputs that you will ever need. And it automatically upgrades the picture and sound for you. All in all this is a great machine and it is not even the top model. We liked this model as it had an extra optical that the top models did not have. Would tell the world about this product!Get more detail about... Read Full Story
I had some doubts about purchasing something like this online but decided to gamble since I really needed a unit that could decode the blueray codecs. After setting it up and running the auto equalizer w/included mic, I popped in a blueray disc and bamm, perfect sound. Listen, if it can make my cheap speaker system sound that good I can imagine what it would sound like if I had the cajones to get some real good speakers. I now run everthing through this, with one HDMI cable to my flat screen.... Read Full Story
They just discontinued this, so if you found one selling and considering, dont bother. For the same price, go buy a Yamaha AV 09 models, much more worthy for you. I tested for 2 week on my Mirage Prestige and S8 Prestige.Pro: Beyond what everyone has talked about here already, this receiver has OSD set up (great). Remote: very nicely layout, large buttons, recognized my other equipments. The audio auto set up gets it perfectly. THAT'S ALL THE PROS!Cons: very very basic DSP options, I think we ... I was already used to the solid quality of Onkyo A/V Receivers so the purpose of this upgrade was to get me from my 5.1 to 7.1. surround. The TX SR606 did that and so much more. The sound fills the room beautifully and I feel like I have a true home theatre. The need to have the AV receiver on whenever I watch tv is taking some getting used to and I wish I had the option to re-label the inputs but other than that...I am totally satisfied with my next generation Onkyo. HDMI connections are g... Read Full Story
Onkyo TX-SR606 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver (Black)The installation was a breeze and using the Onkyo's automatic speaker tuning process enabled immediate good sound and simple way to expand the system as new speakers were obtained. We are very satisfied with the result. Our music tastes run from classical to soul and jazz. The Onkyo does an outstanding job of reproducing the sound from cable or over-the-air tuner. It also does an excellent job with movies and surround sound. We wil... Read Full Story
The receiver is surprisingly bulky, and the remote could use a tiny bit of redesign, most notably its laudable but futile efforts to become your universal remote making it usually do the wrong thing when you press any button. But those are really the only flaws in an absolutely solid receiver. The sound quality is great. Setup is easy; the included microphone and clever software get the job done easy as falling off a log. There are enough connections on the back to rig up pretty much any co... Read Full Story
I bought this Receiver to replace a JVC 5.1 unit that died after 5 years of constant use. None of the existing speakers were replaced (some are over 30 years old). I could not believe the improvement this system made in the sound produced. We used the supplied mic to do the auto setup and that was it.As this system is a true 7.1 we will soon replace the speakers with a matched set and I can't wait to what that will do. The only minor issue is the receiver's display of the of the DTS and DD mo... Read Full Story
Returned receiver after discovering humming noise present when volume was set at high with low input from HDMI devices. Exchanged for Pioneer no humming found (so it wasn't a bad ground). Beside humming receiver had great sound, and was easy to setup.Get more detail about Onkyo TX-SR606 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver (Black). Read Full Story
This is an absolutely fantastic receiver. The sound is fantastic and the functionality is straight forward. Having (4) HDMI's for inputs adds a pile of flexibility. There are a couple of things that took my rating down a notch from 5 stars. Just a couple of notes though:1. Zone 2 ONLY allows Analog inputs. I spent hours troubleshooting this but eventually found it in the fine print in the manual. I wanted this feature specifically for my outdoor speakers. I was able to dual patch from ...
