"Let's Rock' summer classes for kids
From: neighborhoodnotes.com
Had a great conversation with the Portland Parks and Rec Site Director at MLC this afternoon. Sylvia Linington said that there's space in the summer classes that are scheduled for MLC (that's the Metropolitan Learning Center up on 2oth and Glisan) and that they'd love to fill the classes with kids from the neighborhood.
Looks like there are opportunities for music education for kids ages 10 - 18. It's also worth noting that this is a SUN (Schools Uniting Neighborhoods) program. SUN is a very successful Multnomah County program that helps to, well, bring neighborhoods together around neighborhood schools.
There's also a chance to get involved and make a difference for kids. Have any musical equipment around that you'd like to loan or donate? Looks like kids in this program will make great use of it.
Here's more information from a press release that they sent out.
"Let's Rock," Metropolitan Learning Center SUN Community School's popular rock 'n' roll music camp program, is now open for enrollment. The program, which runs June through August, offers an intensive, but fun opportunity for youth and teens to develop both their musical and social skills through rock music.
Enrollment is now open for the three music camps, including "Digital Recording (Garageband)," June 23-26; "Let's Rock Level Two" for older and more advanced students, July 7-24; and "Let's Rock," designed for beginners to advanced students, July 28-August 14. All of the camps run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays.
