Chad OchoCinco is going to create his own NFL breaking news network on Twitter, leveraging his contacts within the league and technology from Motorola. Mr. OchoCinco is convinced he can cut out the middle man, becoming the “inside source” for timely NFL news, such as injury updates.
Here’s a link to the ESPN story.
My take:
Now, I have always been a fan of OchoCinco. Somehow, he has made blatant self-promotion entertaining. Say what you will, but I think that he is an athl... Read Full Story
Americans love college football. The fanfare, the spirit, the deep rooted localized pride. College football fandom is also fueled by the “amateur” myth, the sense that these kids are just playing for the love of the game; pure student athletes who play because of passion rather than money.
While this is a beautiful ideal, one that the NCAA spends millions to protect, more and more people are skeptical of pure college football amateurism. The business of college football is comin... Read Full Story
Michael Vick has just signed a two year deal with the Philladelphia Eagles.
I have rooted for Michael Vick ever since he made a point of changing his life, his circle, and his way of viewing the world. More over, I see his drawn out unemployment as a reflection of our broken prison system, rather than due to his football ability.
Now he has a job, and he definitely deserves a second shot at the NFL. He is one of the most talented players to ever take the football field, so it’s good to... Read Full Story
Since the NBA playoffs ended we’ve been in somewhat of a sports lull. Until football starts, there just isn’t a whole lot going on in the sports world. My recommendation: Instead of anxiously waiting for any little nugget of interesting sports news, check out these websites instead. You might have heard of some of these, or all of them. Let me know what I should add.
1) Don’t even reply– One of the funniest websites out there, where a guy responds to classifieds in an... Read Full Story
Erin Andrews, ESPN’s gorgeous sideline reporter, was recently “peeped” in her hotel room. Eight video clips of her getting dressed hit the internet and the sports blogosphere has gone nuts. Very quickly, ESPN’s legal team tried to stop the spread of the video, and had it taken off some major websites. But, with anything that goes on the internet, once it starts to spread, it’s out there for life.
Now, the story took another interesting turn today when ESPN cho... Read Full Story
Sports are central to the American consciousness and national identity. We start our kids playing sports as soon as they can run, even if they have difficulty changing direction and are uncoordinated. Sports teach “American” values– hard work, dedication, team work, and competitive achievement. They also encourage personal growth, independence, and individuation. Moreover, because they are held in such high esteem, they create role models out of professional athletes for m... Read Full Story
When the Bulls Celtics series ended I was a little disheartened. I sat there thinking, “well, this was an amazing series. There is no way the rest of the playoffs will come close to this series.”
Boy was I wrong. Watching Lebron’s game winning shot on Saturday night, I officially decided that this year’s post-season was something special. Lebron’s shot is one of those sports moments that are forever seared into your memory–you will always remember where y... Read Full Story
Sorry that it has been a little while since I wrote a post, it has been a crazy time, with graduation day only two days away. Between finals, saying goodbye to friends and professors, and writing for a few other sites these last couple of weeks have been busier than Pacman Jones at a strip club.
I’m sitting here watching Orlando and Boston in game 5, and I can’t help but think that this series will be another this playoffs to go seven games. This years playoffs has been wildy en... Read Full Story
The Houston Rockets ended the Cinderella season for the Portland Trailblazers earlier this week with a 4-2 series win. And while the Trailblazers—a team with the youngest rotation in the playoffs this year—got burned in their final game the entire team learned a valuable lesson: good just isn’t good enough.
As the Blazers sift through the debris of their disappointing loss to Houston, their fans have a lot to look forward to. Brandon Roy has established himself as one of the finest player... Read Full Story
Pro Football Talk
Today, Pro Football Talk reports that Tony Dungy, retired NFL coach, evangelical Christian, and all around morally righteous guy will meet with Michael Vick to discuss life after incarceration.
Michael Vick is set to get out of prison in May, and could be eligible to play football again in June. Michael Vick may be one of the most gifted athletes to ever play professional football, with absurd speed, agility, and arm strength. He never quite succeeded at the NFL level. The... Read Full Story
