I really don't have any idea if the kids could swim or not, nor do I know their ages. Yes, it is a salt water canal and there are quite a few boats coming and going all the time. What amazed me is that the adults seemed to be too busy with their party to pay any attention to the kids. As long as the kids weren't bothering them, that was good. Made me think back to when I was a kid and all the adult supervision I had from either one or both of my parents....
