A Guide to Life
Contemplations, tools and wisdom to place in your spiritual toolbox so that you may create an authentic life of abundance
Bumper cars
When you step into a bumper car at the fair it feels like no matter which way you turn someone or something hits you when you least expect it. The problem with the bumper cars is you never get time to find your balance or find some space to figure out the best way to go. Here are a few ideas about what you can do when you start to feel this way:
1. Let go of any resentment, anger, guilt or shame that has built up.
2. Let go of any expectations in regards to outcomes and other peoples behavior
3. Take a moment or a day to breath put aside issues for awhile focus on things which bring you back into balance.
4. Ask for help. Sometimes we cling to things so tightly so intent on fixing them for ourselves we dont allow anyone to help carry the load so we can gain our balance.
Balance is the key here and by balance I do not mean slotting things into a set amount of time or having a perfectly organized schedule. Balance is having peace of mind it is the ability to centre yourself no matter what is going on around you. It is the Ying Yang thing are you confident do you nurture yourself do can you set healthy boundaries are you in touch with your emotions?
When you feel like you are caught in the eye of a hurricane with everything whirling around you take a breathe stop struggling and take a breathe. So many people beat themselves up with self talk “there must be something wrong with me”, “I am the biggest loser out there” or “my life sucks I can’t do anything right.” Chances are you just don’t have the right life tools to deal with the events happening in your life. Not all of us got the ‘how to deal with life in a healthy way’ manual from our parents a lot of us got the ‘how to avoid life’ one.
So now the secret is out you are human like the rest of us what a relief not to have to be perfect all the time. Now you can get out of the bumper car and avoid having all the little things life tosses up throw you off balance. Here is the thing stuff happens to everyone but with the right tools and self belief you can walk through each challenge knowing it will be okay no matter what.
I have done several first aid courses and every instructor has said the same thing we teach you the skills not so you can become a Doctor in an emergency situation but because having the skills stops you from panicing when faced with an emergency. Makes sense doesn’t it, developing a set of life skills has the same effect. People with conflict resolution skills are less likely to become overwelmed when confronted by anger, people who have good intimacy skills are less likely to be intimidated by relationship issues and those who have a strong faith are more likely to have something to hold onto to get them through a crisis. It makes sense that the more resources you have to pull from the easier it will be to walk through challenges.
And here is a little reminder to end with pride may give you the illusion of being strong however it is the biggest weakness we possess. Pride is a badge people wear that says I am too pigheaded too stubborn too afraid too embarrassed to ask for the resources I need to create the life I want. Don’t be one of these people use all the resources Creator puts in your path to grow learn and develop the skills you need to meet life challenges head on.
