I didn’t forget this series, just needed to give it some more prayerful consideration and careful thought before plowing ahead. If you missed the first one (last week) you can read it by clicking HERE.
Now, for context, we should turn to chapter 14 of Romans:
1Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgment on disputable matters. 2One man’s faith allows him to eat everything, but another man, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables. 3The man who eats everything ... Read Full Story
As some of you know, yesterday—in the early morning hours—I was visited by the ‘kidney stone fairly.’ Unlike other fairies (tooth fairy for example) I didn’t get any cash, all I got was a tiny, jagged edged, rock!
Well, that’s when I remembered that I promised my two kids, Nathan 12 and Juliana 10 that we would all sleep out in the treehouse.
No, I’m not kidding.
I made a lame attempt to mention the rain and adverse conditions, but they quickly count... Read Full Story
Getting used to these again are ya? I laid off for a few months—not sure why. Maybe my mind didn’t have anything in it to spare let alone dump.
But these days there’s plenty on my mind.
It was a great day today at Southbrook. Southbrook central saw more than 50 people give their lives to Christ! Two of these were in our youth! This NEVER gets old!
We talked about one of my very favorite stories in all of scripture—the story of Nicodemus.
This chapter also has the mo... Read Full Story
We are more than 12 hours into out 24 hours of prayer for tomorrow’s Nicodemus project as well as the message I am doing on the 22nd (The Woman at the Well). These are 2 naturally evangelical passages and I will be ‘going there!’ You can count on that! Read Full Story
Throughout the ages there has been a case of ‘Mistaken Identity.’ It’s fooled Christ followers into wrong responses time and time again. It’s done other harmful things as well…
It’s caused a disease to continue on ‘unchecked.’
It’s caused the wrong individuals to take the fall.
It’s sapped enthusiasm and passion from entire churches.
It’s ‘puffed up’ the already arrogant.
It’s driven the righteous undergrou... Read Full Story
The book of Numbers (in the Bible) finds finds a lot of people fighting back yawns as they attempt to trudge through it on their way through all 66 books of the Bible. If you made it through Leviticus, you’re sure to wither away in the wasteland of Numbers—they reason. Other slow going, thick and soupy books include, Ezekiel, Jeremiah, and Lamentations. Let’s face it, when it comes to Bible reading, most of us are sprinting toward the good stuff—heading for t... Read Full Story
As we continue our journey through the gospel of John at SCC—we will arrive (beginning THIS weekend) at the first of two of the most evangelical passages in all of scripture:
The late night schooling of Nicodemus (ch. 3)
The encounter with the ‘Woman at the Well (ch. 4).
The first would be the perfect time to invite all those friends (think, facebook), co-workers, neighbors and family who seem to have an endless stream of questions about God.
The second would be the per... Read Full Story
This morning I challenged the men of Southbrook to consider something different for their sons this Christmas than the run of the mill stuff that will break or be discarded (whichever comes first) by January. I had them think about how it was that ‘Daniel’ from the Old Testament rose repeatedly to the highest places of leadership and honor when he seemed to have so many strikes against him. So many thoughts floating around in my head. This could easily be a SERIES, but I will refrain and keep it short.
Today was an all around great day!
High turn out at Southbrook Weddington. I guess people were pretty interested in the subject matter. We’re going through the gospel of John, and today we talked about how Jesus turned water to wine. That lead to a hot topic question… ‘Can Christians drink alcohol?’
It amazes me how many times I’ve heard preachers ... Read Full Story
