Young Jeezy - "Who Dat? (feat. Shawty Redd)" Video
Young Jeezy is one of those artists that may not necessarily be the absolute most talented in the Hip Hop game, but always produces music that is fun to listen to. Whether you love him or hate him, his southcore instrumentals deliver consistently even if one may argue that his lyricism is not always on par with the rest of the game.
With regards to Jeezy, however, the spectacle in this case is his music video for his song "Who Dat?", a track that teeters the line between hardcore southern rap and club banger. It isn't the song that makes the video, but rather, the video that makes the song. If you are like me and hear a track that doesn't have a video and start thinking of a music video for the particular song, you may be surprised by this video in particular. The reason being that well, it is anything but the tough as nails instrumental that it coincides with. Sure, it would be natural to conjure up a video that takes place in one of Atlanta's rather generic looking southern slums where there are a bunch of hard hitting ma' fuckas on the street with bats, knives and gats and insert shots of that one unlucky bastard that is running through back alleys from the cops in slow motion.
However, Jeezy does not subscribe to this. Instead, "Who Dat?" features a video that is a ridiculous-yet-incredibly-fun testament to overopulence, staggering ignorance and pure fun. No, I'm not going off to say that Jeezy himself is ignorant, but what I am saying is that his video certainly is one that is ushering a new wave of hip hop's interpretation with more certainty. Fader has resonantly proclaimed that we are in an age of hair band hip hop and if you have no fucking clue what they are talking about then let me explain it to you: Hip Hop is coming back around full circle, back to the days of ridiculous chains, inaccessible wealth and grandiose lifestyles that are not only borderline-retarding, but also quite a spectacle... Hell, Jeezy is riding around in a golden helicopter! And I welcome it with open arms.
