Finally, what we’ve waited for all season. The Junior Little League Playoffs have started. If you’ve read previous posts, you’ll know that we had an awesome regular season, going 15-0, outscoring our opponents by more than 140 runs. We also won the City Championship game, so we headed into the Little League playoffs with a perfect 16-0 season.
Our first playoff game was against our across city rival and we won 10-0. The second game we won in the bottom of the 7th to put us ... Read Full Story

My daughter’s 16U team won their tournament this weekend! They won all three games Saturday to seed well for Sunday. Their first game wasn’t until 1:40 and they won. The next game they were down by two runs in the last inning, and scored three to take the lead by one going in to the bottom of the inning. They held the other team and won to make it to the championship game against a team that had just beaten their opponents by 10 runs. We went up 3 -0 in the first inning and never ... Read Full Story

I just came across an excellent site on fastpitch softball that any fan needs to know about. It’s called Fastpitch Illustrated and it has both radio and television spots all about, what else? - Fastpitch Softball!. The site owner is Gary Leland, who I noticed by looking at his area code is from my [...] Read Full Story

May I please make a suggestion? I’ve written about this before; about how my daughter’s LL team has outscored their opponents by more than 120 runs. Well, last night we played a team that could not hit, nor catch, or get out of an inning without us stepping of the bag. We could have played the entire game without them making an out (ok, that’s an exaggeration, but making three outs in an inning is not). We had to keep stepping off the bases to let them get back up to bat.

Do you know what a 31 21 is? It’s the size of a bat, and the correct bat size allows you to generate maximum bat speed. A bat that feels good and is easy to swing is the right bat choice. The weight of the bat should be the heaviest bat the player can swing without losing bat speed. When someone tells you they have a bat that is a 31 21 (like my 12 year old daughter has), this means their bat is 31 inches long, and weighs 21 ounces.
Bats range in length from 24 to 34 inches, and of co... Read Full Story

My view of fastpitch softball comes from my years of experience with my daughters ages 12 and 15 who have played softball since the age of six. Then they played t-ball, and boy was it fun. Now they both play select softball and the quality of play is a little better. Select ball is played at a higher level of competition than you will find in recreational sports, like Little League, for instance. Both my daughters have played Little League as well and some of my best memories of their games c... Read Full Story

My 12 year old daughter came in to pitch in her Little League game last week after our first pitcher threw 4 excellent innings. She started pitching and one of the parents on the other team started saying to his kids, “She’s throwing meatballs.” He said this several times. If you don’t know what that means, it’s not a nice thing to say. It’s derogatory. It means she’s throwing them straight down the middle with no speed, meaning anyone can get a hit. ...
