On top of the kitchen cupboards, I am building a Loon's nest. It seems appropriate since we named our Log Cabin "The Loon's Nest." I have a couple Loon decoys, bird houses, greenery, a goldfinch in the nest. I need more Loons. Now I'm thinking I have to find that elusive electrician to put a plug up there for me so at Christmas time I can plug in some white lights behind the Loons and birdhouses. Maybe I'll have white lights up there year round! Maybe the Loons would like other friends such... Read Full Story
I live for the weekends when we can be up at our log cabin. Once we're there, I feel more alive and my spirit is nourished. It's easy to have a great day at the log cabin... Watching the black squirrel jump from tree to tree to get closer to the bird feeders. Standing on our deck, breathing in the fresh air. Seeing the sunlight pour into our loft windows. Watching my hubby enjoy his Christmas gift out on the lake. And of course Marvin... Read Full Story
Our log cabin is located on quiet Little Bradford Lake. I love that it is a no-wake lake. I appreciate being able to hear the birds, or swim without being mowed down by a jet ski (that's what the neighboring lake is for - Big Bradford!) I've been hoping for a Loon pair to come onto our lake - I believe they have enough "runway" to land and take off, the water is clean and there is good fishing too. I've been monitoring the Loon pair on Big Bradford and recently when they chased off a loon... Read Full Story
There is something so mystical about seeing the Log Cabin lit up at night. I can't wait for this winter to see the cabin covered with snow at night, have a fire burning (wait, I don't have a fireplace yet...)and seeing it look like a picture out of Currier & Ives. (Yes, I daydream quite a bit!) I'm thinking the Log Cabin also needs a couple more lights underneath the roof eaves. My Log Cabin projects continue.... Read Full Story
Winning Nature QuoteSubmitted by Jennifer - http://robinswoods.blogspot.com/ "There is pleasure in the pathless woods, there is rapture in the lonely shore, there is society where none intrudes, by the deep sea, and music in its roar; I love not Man the less, but Nature more." George Gordon Byron, 1788-1824 There were so many great submissions and I enjoyed reading them all! This particular quote submitted by Jennifer really touched and spoke to me - thank you Jennifer! Sometimes it is the most simplest things that are the most fun to do for kids. Greg suggested to his son and cousins that they go looking for turtles and see what else they can find in the woods. It was funny to hear all their comments from our deck: "Hey, is that a garter snake?" "No, that's a stick." "Where are those turtles hiding?" "Maybe they're not." "How many trees do you think it took to build that log cabin?" "A million!" **P.S. Today is the deadline to enter my Log Home Living... Read Full Story
Watch out - my 9 year old stepson is bringing his 2 cousins with him to our Log Cabin this weekend! This means we have to find entertaining things for them all to do. The hubby is already planning on taking them fishing and hiking. Alpenfest is also going on in Gaylord this weekend - a swiss themed event with a parade, art fair and contests such as who has the best knees (hubby won't win this one unfortunately) - yodeling contest and a bubble gum blowing contest (maybe my stepson or one of... Do you think my cat Marvin loves our log cabin? This cat loves to spring out at us and peek at us from high places. I think our cat prefers the log cabin to our regular home - all the new sights and sounds. He's definitely seeing a lot more interesting birds. And those variety of squirrels - black, red and grey. He's invited them in to play but so far no one has accepted his offer. If Marvin finds any object in the loft, he immediately slides it across the loft floor and pushes it to fall... Read Full Story
The hubby was asking me how many different photos did I think I could take of our Log Cabin and post on my blog. Ha! I told him too many to count, once we do our landscaping, finish our basement, decorate more, complete the loft, etc. I think as many of my fellow log home dwellers have mentioned, projects are never done on your log home and that is fine with me. I can't think of a better place to tinker around at! **Don't forget to enter my giveaway listed on July 11th's post... Read Full Story
