Small Business Domain Names - How to Choose?
What do you think happens to your business card once you give it out?
What happens to the ones you get? Do you:
- file them in a card holder?
- stick them in a drawer?
- enter the info immediately into your online contact manager?
- stick it in the map pocket of your car door?
I’ve done all these things with business cards I’ve collected. I can only guess the same sorts of things happen to mine.
What’s my point? If you aren’t following up with people you meet, you need to make really sure they find you.
I recently met a massage therapist and then lost his card. I remembered that he had a web site, but I couldn’t remember what it was. So I googled his name - nothing relevant. I googled his name and massage therapist - nothing relevant. Finally I googled his name and his city and found an article he wrote 18 months ago. Thankfully there was a phone number in the author bio.
Here is his url - www.vibrantlife.massagetherapy.com. His name is Tony Houston. If you are anywhere near Lewisville, TX, I encourage you to make an appointment and prepare to go to heaven without the inconvenience of dying.
Back to the domain name, though. I checked and www.tonyhoustonmassage.com is available. It isn’t as fancy, but it is what I would typed into google when I was looking for him.
How about you? If someone met you and they could remember your name and what you do, could they find you online? Make it easy for them. Ditch the fancy-schmancy domain name and use what they are going to think of instead.
I’m checking on www.sherriethatditzyblonde.com as soon as I log off
