Dave Brown - Cartoonist for the Independent
Independent Cartoonist, Dave Brown at his drawing board I WENT TO see the exhibition of cartoons by Independent cartoonist Dave Brown last night at The Political Cartoon Gallery. There is an awe-inspiring array of meticulously-crafted artwork here from his regular Saturday offerings when he draws spoofs from well known artworks to reflect what has been happening in the news. Unfortunately, I couldn’t post any of the cartoons here because of copyright, but I urge you go along an see thi... Read Full Story
Topical Cartoon!
Richard Branson and Virgin Atlantic on my Drawing Board!
Today I have been working on an idea to send to Richard Branson on behalf of The London International Cartoon Festival. It is hoped that he will support us as he produces a range of comics in Asia under the banner of Virgin Comics. This is a first idea which probably won’t be sent to him, but you can see from the photo  the cartoony process from roughs through to finished (albeit rushed) artwork! Read Full Story
What would happen if Gordon Brown went on Britain’s Got Talent?
Gordon Brown on Britain's Got Talent
We’re running a competition on the London Cartoon Festival site for non-cartoonists to come up with topical cartoon ideas. Then I draw up the cartoon for them. Here’s the first one, from an idea by @farctum on Twitter. Gordon Brown on Britain's Got Talent It’s just what we could imagine Simon Cowell saying to the British Prime Minister Gordon Brown on his TV show Britain’s Got Talent. I was well chuffed when I saw that this idea was produced a couple of days ahead... Read Full Story

London International Cartoon Festival Logo Design!
GOSH I HAVE been busy! As Founder/Owner of the London International Cartoon Festival I only have myself to blame. Since Penelope Else took over the project management of this ailing concern (started in 2006) back in January, things have picked up speed. One of the first things we needed to do was change the name from LICfest (more on this later!) and design a new identity. A logo has to be simple, memorable and scalable up or down without losing clarity. So, a lot of cartoony detail has to b... Read Full Story
My ‘SERIOUS’ style of caricature
Sometimes a client is nervous about commissioning an exaggerated caricature of a colleague. In such cases I am often issued with a list of demands, not to make the ears too big and not to make him ‘too fat’ amongst many others. This is anathema to the purist caricaturist and many refuse to work under such demands. In my case, the request almost always comes after they’ve seen the first rough and balked at the idea of making a present out of the mild contortions I make out o... Read Full Story
My Cartoon for the Shrewsbury Festival
Posted on April 30th, 2009 by simonelli It wasn’t selected, of course, in the face of such superior competition from hardened gag cartoonists, but I was satisfied with the idea. One of my more subtle ones - a reference to 'Frankenstein Foods'. Filed under: cartoon, joke « The London International Cartoon Festival 2010! My ‘SERIOUS’ style of caricature » Read Full Story
The London International Cartoon Festival 2010!
AS SOME OF you may have heard, I am busy organising the FIRST EVER London International Cartoon Festival (LICfest) for 2010. This will be a riotous event involving cartoonists from around the world presenting and demonstrating their art to the public. There will be talks, workshops, competitions, live comedy and musical performances, street theatre and many celeb appearances. The amazing thing is that this is the FIRST time this has ever been organised in a major capital city. Penelope Else,... Read Full Story
