London International Cartoon Festival Logo Design!
GOSH I HAVE been busy!
As Founder/Owner of the London International Cartoon Festival I only have myself to blame.
Since Penelope Else took over the project management of this ailing concern (started in 2006) back in January, things have picked up speed.
One of the first things we needed to do was change the name from LICfest (more on this later!) and design a new identity.
A logo has to be simple, memorable and scalable up or down without losing clarity. So, a lot of cartoony detail has to be avoided.
The first idea was to incorporate Big Ben, but this proved to be unwieldy:
The detail on Big Ben is too small and you cannot see the people on the bus.
Then I played around with the Union Jack for a while:
But it was all too reminiscent of the BNP! I rather liked the splattering ink effect, though.
A more subdued splatter efect was considered uninspiring:
So I went back to the double decker bus and thought about it being drawn with a pen and brush:
And I produced a horizontal version for flexibility:
I think we can safely say that The London International Cartoon Festival now has an identity!
