Theme Parks Aren't For Moms

Our two year season passes for Universal Studios are coming up on their expiration date so we have been trying to squeeze a couple more visits in around my husband's crazy work schedule. We were able to get out this past weekend, which turned out to be a nice day. It wasn't really humid yet and the heat wasn't that high.

My son "K' decided he was big enough for the Mummy ride so that was where we headed first before he lost his nerve. My husband has been trying to convince him to get on that ride since he was tall enough to go on. I've ridden it myself and wasn't too sure whether he would fair too well.

We got to the line which was showing only a 30 minute wait time, which is a low amount of time for this particular ride. We went inside and wound our way up to the top to get on the ride. Then the nerves set in. Sweaty palms, palpitating heart, severe stomach squeamishness. I didn't know if we were going to make it. Total fear had set it. Anxiety was way above and beyond it's normal high.

Oh, you thought that was "K"'s feelings. Wrong, they were the mother's. I was so scared of him riding that ride. I had a horrible fear he would have a panic attack on the ride. Granted his dad would be with him, but still. I stood outside the gate where the parent swap was and waited breathing shallowly and my heart racing. Finally they returned. He looked cooler than a cucumber and my husband said he did awesome. He didn't even scream. Isn't it crazy how we have such fears and then they have none?

Next stop was the Jaws ride. Simple little boat trip. We have ridden it at least 20 times. We come upon the "fried" shark where it comes up out of the water and "D" goes ballistic. Screaming and trying to run off the boat like the plastic floatie shark was actually going to eat him. I don't get it. How many times have we been on this ride? "D" also cried for 20 minutes before he rode ET the first time. The bicycles scared him. I don't see him being the adventurous type and riding the Hulk or the Mummy too soon.

So after scaring myself to death for my children and enjoying a seriously wet butt from a plastic shark I got to do my favorite, Twister!!! Yahoo!!! I don't think we will get another chance because the tickets expire in a couple of weeks and the weather will be bad, plus all of those lovelies from up north will be down hogging all of the rides. I did learn that I have to let go and let my kiddos experience the rides for themselves and to just not show that I have jello legs and heart palpitations for them. It is amazing how fast they continue to grow up. I still see them as little diaper wearing, drooling, rugrats that I can pick up and squeeze and kiss on.
