Went to work, came home, egg, chips, sausage and beans (my request), walk the dog, a bit of social networking , bath, brandy and bed.
Still it was only my 47th. Read Full Story

You know that Bank that we all own, they have really made me chuckle this week. First they close an account that I didn’t want closing, causing 5k to disappear into a black hole. Then they write to me to tell me that they have upgraded my business credit card (without asking), which will result in a days work logging in to loads of online services to change my payment details.
The letter came with the strapline ‘Helpful Banking’ on the envelope. Which really had me grinning ... Read Full Story

I was shocked to read today that Flintshire County Council had banned the term ‘Spotted Dick’ from their menus. Replacing it with Spotted Richard.
I am all for political correctness where people are being abused or excluded, but ‘Spotted Dick’ is just funny (and tasty). It made me wonder what happened to the ‘Wimpy Bender Brunch’ a favorite of Elton John and David Furnish.
Obviously I am now worried what is going to happen next, are Harvester going to have... Read Full Story

Don’t get me wrong I have loved England winning he ashes, but it wasn’t a classic series. I don’t mean that it wasn’t as good as 2005, that was a once in a generation series. But it was a bit like when we beat them when they hadn’t got the Packer players, they are rebuilding and I think we need to as well.
Massive pluses Stuart Broad and Trott, but by the time we are next defending them in Oz we need new faces and they need some play soon. Rashid needs to be mov... Read Full Story

Angela (Trouty) has come back after two weeks nursing sick parents. I have been losing the battle to keep the house (Hotel Paradiso) clean. The sofas have been home to an assortment of teenagers and young adults who go to bed 3 hours after me and get up similar period after I have gone to work.
You no longer need a tetanus jab to enter the house, the towns takeaways will now experience a deepening of the credit crunch. We have found out that Simon is allergic to most home cleaning products an... Read Full Story

Looking back on my post of earlier this summer ‘Carry on Camping’, I didn’t get around to buying that tent and I am glad that I didn’t. The BBQ summer disappeared at the end of June and we have had plenty of wet weather since. Perhaps I would be better off with a caravan or a mobile home. I have a full weekend of cricket this weekend, Saturday I’boro vs Wellingborough in the league. Tomorrow, U11’s play Rushden in the cup in the morning and in the afternoon... Read Full Story

One of the highlights of NCL Div 1 cricket is an away game at W Indians. Upside = Subway for tea. Downsides, the wicket, non stop b**shit from all fielders, Manish’s war against the entire world, the wicket, playing in the middle of nowhere, the wicket, no bar, going home straight after the game without speaking to opposition, umpires or own team for the first time in 30 years of playing cricket and oh yes, the wicket. Before the family and record company get the chance to cash in on the death of MJ, Vodafone, O2 and Orange must have had their best day since New Years Eve. I have had so many jokes sent to me today. As everyone knows, the phone companies secretly fund a joke writing team that initiate all of these circulating jokes, which must generate millions. That’s my conspiracy theory of the day.
We can now await the start of the MJ industry ala Elvis Presley, Neverland will become the new Grace... Read Full Story

This prolonged spell of good weather has made me crave the great outdoors. The tent purchase is now definitely on the cards, especially now that Eewee has bought a new tent and suggested a camping night at the cricket club. This has also prompted me to get out my Potjie, which is a cooking pot, very popular in South Africa and probably why Graham Smith and Jaque Kallis look like cricketing Sumo wrestlers.
It has also prompted me to get out my

There is a growing opinion in the Childs house that we should buy a tent. Firstly so we can stick the hoards of teenagers that seem to crash out ours in it overnight. Secondly, so that Ange and myself can escape for the odd night and walk the dog along the beach somewhere.
This is not an attempt to jump on the current glamping bandwagon, we are not looking to stay in a Yurt or Tipi with a fitted wood burning stove. I fancy good old British camping with a crappy calor gas burner and communal t... Read Full Story
