Fall Color Garden Roundup, Part 2
Here's a plain ol' Lilac from Costco, pulling on some pretty good golden color! None of the other Lilacs here have the idea... That's a Philadelphus next to it, quite green yet. Down low in the shot is a golden Spirea, showing a mix of subtle rust and wine tinges.
BELOW: The ubiquitous dying fern... These are everywhere here, lending a rusty hue to the whole local landscape. Here's a link to pics of the process starting.
BELOW: Fireweed! I love this stuff. The flowers are festively tall and purple... and one of the first plants to colonize desolate clear-cut areas, burned areas and roadsides. It's also famous for the flavor it lends to honey. You can find "Fireweed honey" in local stores. It's showing some nice sprigs of leaf color now.
BELOW: Blueberries showing cherry-bright Fall color. I aspire to a huge plot of there, I really like Bluebs and the foliage is gorgeous in Fall. By leaving those HUGE Canadian thistles in the pic, you could just say I'm keepin' it real!
BELOW: A blue-ribbon Fall color winner here is my "Bloodgood" Japanese Maple. Wow! Intense berry and cherry red colors... I am smitten. This little tree survived a run-in with the tractor and is thriving. I'll give it a little pruning soon, when it's dormant.
