Before you join an affiliate program or decide to promote an affiliate product, there are certain essential things you should consider if you want to be successful in your work from home online endeavor.

Your choice of an affiliate program will determine your ultimate success or failure online.

1. Beware of those affiliate programs that are extremely expensive to join. It’s not unusual to pay a fee to join, but it should not be excessive. Some affiliate programs are free to join and that may be the route to go if you are short on money. Also look at the products they offer to make sure they are worthwhile will be not too expensive to promote.

2. One of the key things to look for in an affiliate program is the presence of affiliate marketing tools. In order to make money quickly, you need to have professional promotional tools to work with. In addition, the program should have a support system in place to answer any of your questions or concerns.

3. Check the popularity of the product or service. It is extremely hard to market a product that is not in demand. You also need to ensure the quality of the product or service that you are promoting so that you are convinced it will be around for a long time.

4. Perhaps the most important aspect is being paid, after all, you are in this to make money. Find out how often the commissions are paid and when to expect them. There may be a slight delay in receiving commissions, but it should not be excessive.

5. The amount of money you can make in commission should always be a prime consideration. You should expect somewhere between 30% and 70% for each sale, and some programs offer residual commission as well. Choose those programs that pay high commissions, provided the product/service is of high quality and value.

6. Check to see if the program is one-tier or two-tier. A one-tier program will pay you only for the products you have sold yourself. A two-tier program will pay you commission for the products you sell, plus some commission on the products sold by those people you referred into the business. If at all possible, choose an affiliate program that offers you the chance to earn residual income, as well.

These are the things I always take into consideration when choosing affiliate programs that I think will be most successful and produce the highest earnings possible.
