Flights will be packed, especially today, Sunday and Monday – the busiest flying days around the holiday, according to the Air Transport Association (ATA). The airline trade group urges people to get to airports early to minimize hassles. However, high fuel prices and a sputtering economy have reduced airline capacity to its lowest level in a decad... Happy Thanksgiving
Thursday is the day we sit back and reflect on things for which we’re thankful. If we can stay awake after a large meal while a marginally entertaining football game is going on. We won’t be having that large meal until Friday, but the football is the same no matter what. Our nation has had a difficult year, and if the report out Tuesday from the Federal Reserve has any validity, we’re in for a lengthy stretch of difficult times. The Fed predicts that unemployment may stay as high as seven to... Read Full Story
Some Establishments Open on Thanksgiving
Put the turkey on autopilot. With holiday retail sales projected to be anemic, some familiar chains will open their doors on Thanksgiving Day – several nationally for the first time. Walmart will. So will most Old Navy stores. Toys R Us will open at midnight on Thanksgiving. RadioShack will test Turkey Day openings on the West Coast. And it’s the first time for T.G.I. Friday’s. Others who have done it for years will continue, including Kmart and Walgreen’s. “The... Read Full Story

Federal Reserve policymakers see an improving short-term economic outlook but believe the economy and job market will remain sluggish for years, according to a forecast released Tuesday. Other reports showed home prices and consumer confidence rose slightly recently. The developments portray a steady but tepid recovery. “The economy and housing markets are benefiting enormously from very aggressive policy efforts,” says economist Mark Zandi of Moody’s Economy.com. Obama’s Approval Rating Dives on Afghan War
WASHINGTON – Public approval of President Obama’s handling of the war in Afghanistan has plummeted, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds, amid rising pessimism about the course of the conflict. The nation is divided over what to do next: Nearly half of those surveyed endorse deploying thousands of additional U.S. troops, while four in 10 say it’s time to begin withdrawing forces. The mixed picture comes as the president weighs a request from the top U.S. commander for about 40,000 ... Read Full Story
