How healthy is our corporate culture? - Part I
From:  ubiquitense.com
Well, what should I say? This topic was not even in the remotest corner of my brain when I logged on to the dashboard of http://www.ubiquitense.com. Usually, once I log on to my site, I'm confronted with various topics that I must write about, but end up choosing a topic that would be easier to finish before 11:30 PM (ahem! that's when I go to bed). Sometimes, my brain is just too dry to think of a topic that I could write about. Today, I was caught in the middle of the aforementioned... Read Full Story
WALL-E: Movie review
From:  ubiquitense.com
Well, what should I say? I've been rather late in writing a review for a movie that was released about 3 weeks ago. Anyways, nothing has been lost yet, and there are still quite a few million people out there waiting to watch this animation masterpiece. Wall-E is a typical love story, where one can draw parallels with the Indian cinema (or even Titanic!). So, the story is simple. Imagine an Indian cinema where a poor guy falls in love with a rich girl who has to follow a directive, and e... Read Full Story
E-waste: Be a little friendly to our only HOME
From:  ubiquitense.com
"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguisable from magic" - Arthur C. Clarke True, isn't it? I've always marvelled at technologies such as the television (TV), computers, cellular phones, portable music gadgets, CD, DVD, Blue-ray, and so on, the list is endless. But never have I wondered about what happens to them, or where they go, when they become kaputt and obsolete. I came across a scientific journal on e-waste where it was mentioned that more than 45 millio... Read Full Story
As the mind thinketh - an informal survey
From:  ubiquitense.com
It was a nice saturday morning, 6:26 AM. I was staring at the deep orange eastern sky sipping a cup of hot coffee...lost in a train of thoughts. I'm aware of the chirping of the birds, and an occasional flap of the wings of birds flying hither and thither silhouetted against the orange sky. 'I wish I were a bird' - that was the first thought that came to my mind when I envied at their happy life, not needing to worry about salary, escalating costs due to inflation, saving money, i... Chrome Web browser from Google - first look!
From:  ubiquitense.com
Though 'm a end user of Microsoft products, 'm never a fan of Internet Explorer. I've always been looking around for browsers with tabbed interfaces and faster rendering of web pages, and Opera and Firefox suited my needs. Lately, 've been using Firefox and Flock web browsers, and 'm liking both in spite of them having a couple of disadvantages (heh, kinda' trivial problems: not able to perform certain online banking transactions). Firefox and Flock offer the same func... Read Full Story
Ubuntu Linux - ‘m loving it!
From:  ubiquitense.com
In my previous article, I was talking about how dejected I was with Microsoft Vista. I believe it was good in one way as it made me explore the latest version of a cool and elegant desktop Linux operating system (OS) - Ubuntu 8.04 LTS!. I'm not gonna talk much about the operating system; 'll just include some screen shots from my system so that you can get a clear picture of how good it looks - anyways, looks are subjective!! I’m starting to dislike Windows Vista - here’s why…
From:  ubiquitense.com
During the last quarter of 2007 there were various offers by vendors such as HP, Dell and Acer, and my brother was wanting one Compaq notebook powered by AMD Athlon 64 X2 processor and 1GB memory. The good thing (at that time!!) was that the notebook was pretty cost effective and it included the Vista Home Basic 32-bit version, and a HP Webcam & HP stereo headset were complimentary. My brother and I were fascinated to lay our hands on a Vista-loaded computer, and finally we bought it!! W... Read Full Story
What kinda’ watches do the filthy rich wear?
From:  ubiquitense.com
My friends, who constantly keep a tab of movie magazines and actors, used to tell me that some of the superstars in the India film-dom are so filthy rich that they wear a new Rolex watch every day. I don’t know if it is true or not, but considering the hypothetical situation that if I were a billionaire I wouldn’t mind wearing different watches every day! I came across an interesting piece of article on the world’s most expensive watches. Our lust for wealth-coupled-prestige... Read Full Story
Some very interesting programs on Nat-Geo, Animal Planet and others…
From:  ubiquitense.com
In India, still there are a few million people who look to TVs as general entertainment gadgets that can make you laugh or cry - by watching those good for nothing, anti-social mega-serials. These mega-serials corrupt your mind and make you think like a devil (or think evil?, coz there are good devils and bad devils too). There are exceptions though, but can they become rules!? NO. I would appreciate a lot more programs on sex and sex education, and people spending quite some time on these - ... Read Full Story
