200 Brown Favor Boxes on the Wall...
Our "shop" is busily preparing for Kerri & Chico's wedding next weekend, and I'm reminded by the tasks I'm completing (and yes, they're getting checked off the list one-by-one!) how procrastination has made so many couples' lives incredibly difficult during the last weeks of planning. They always mean well (and these would be our day-of and partial coordination clients for the most part.  The full-service clients chose early on to invest in a solution to this particular problem).  But the... Professionalism, Contracts and Client Selection
I was contacted by a bride last month - very sweet and very together.  We met and hit it off, and she advised that she had chosen to hire our company to provide Wedding Day Management services. We forwarded her our standard contract along with our gratitude for being selected. And thus the niceties ended.  Said bride never contacted us again, however, her father (who incidentally had never met with us in person) did.  He was unhappy with the way our contract was written.  He demanded that we... We're Back
Yes, it's been almost a month since our last post, which is far too long.  Chalk it up to October (and the months we've spent in preparation for it) - it's the second busiest wedding season in Williamsburg, Virginia and we've got an incredible wedding coming in under two weeks! But, I'm renewing my commitment to regular posting and look forward to more witty repartee with those of you brave enough to comment.  I'm off on an important personal errand this afternoon with my little guy, so today... Seven Things You Deserve
You've booked a quality reception site, taken great care selecting your caterer, dutifully followed up with your vendors and have provided them with all of the input they've requested.  There are things you may be taking for granted that are frighteningly overlooked or botched on a too-regular basis.  These are seven things that you deserve: 1. Pressed linens. They may have folding lines, and they may not be military crisp, but they should NOT be visibly wrinkled.  And no, no matter what... Read Full Story
Scott Crabbs & The William & Mary Alumni House
I'm starting this series close to home in part because it's close to my heart, and in part because I am in the process of scheduling real, honest-to-goodness site visits and wedding observations nationwide, which will understandably take a little time.  Non-Williamsburg brides, keep checking in.  I promise content relevant to the broader audience.  But first, we start with a true Williamsburg gem. Scott Crabbs, "Event Guru" and "Facility Manager with a Clue", counts among his many... Read Full Story
Groundbreaking Series: Real Vendors Who "Get It"
I am launching a movement that will help brides choose the best of the best wedding professionals - not only those in Williamsburg, Virginia (my immediate territory), but also those in the great beyond. This popular, professional wedding coordinator is making it my mission to find, feature and praise the heck out of vendors who "Get It".  If I mention them in this blog, I am telling you that in my professional opinion, there is something major that they are doing right.  You STILL have to... Evaluate, Choose, Trust
I've mentioned this before, but it stands to be repeated, and loudly: 1. Critically evaluate your potential wedding professionals: be respectful but diligent 2. Select the best candidate for the job and budget, giving weight to experience, references and your gut feelings 3. Trust your pros: you chose them for their expertise, unless they are recommending something truly bizarre or unheard of, trust that they want the best for your wedding day Quality, experienced wedding professionals can... Post Commitment
The fall season is gearing up at Williamsburg Wedding Design!  September and October brides are putting the finishing touches on their celebrations and the 2009 crowd is starting to energize.  We are fortunate to be right in the middle of this flurry of activity, and yes, our posting frequency has (in its own annual fashion) lagged. We're committed to bringing you quality coordination advice, not just announcements and fluff.  As a result, we've made the decision to post twice-weekly instead... Read Full Story
