It’s one of those great frustrations. Despite overwhelming support nationwide for a health care bill with a public option, the magical 218 vote number in the House still isn’t a guarantee. So by now we’ve all heard about the rather historic election in New York’s 23rd district. The special election resulted in the first Democrat winning the seat in a generation which, while on the surface seems to be evidence of a big rise in support for Democrats, is actually a big story about the split in the GOP.

By and large, non-Washingtonian elections are not indicative of national trends. No matter how pissed off someone might be at people in the Capitol, they aren’t going to take that out on the guy that works for the state. Whether a Democrat or Republican wins in Virginia has little to do with what’s going to happen come the 2010 midterms. Read Full Story
