SPD and CDU/CSU Meet for Coalition Talks

(L to R) Sigmar Gabriel, chairman of the SPD, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, head of the German Social Democratic Party's (SPD) parliamentary group, former SPD chancellor candidate Peer Steinbrueck, and Hannelore Kraft, prime minister of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, arrive for the first talks between the German Social Democrats (SPD) and the German Christian Democrats (CDU) over a potential coalition government, at the Parlamentarische Gesellschaft building on October 4, 2013 in Berlin, Germany. The SPD and CDU are considering options for entering into a possible coalition government following recent federal elections that gave the CDU a strong win, but the latter is still in need of a coalition partner.
