Death Tolls Rises As Rescue Efforts Continue

(AFP OUT) A book of condolences in respect for earthquake victims is signed by U.S. President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush sign at an unexpected visit to the Chinese Embassy May 20, 2008 in Washington, DC. A major earthquake measuring 7.9 on the Richter scale, the worst in 58 years, jolted China's Sichuan Province May 12. The death toll is now estimated at over 40,000 people and is expected to rise, as 100,000 military troops continue rescue operations.
