Mad King Ludwig, Bavaria Marks 125th Anniversary Of His Death
Prince Luitpold of Bavaria, Duchess Elisabeth in Bavaria, Duke Max in Bavaria and Duke Franz of Bavaria (4thL-R) attend a religious mass to be held in honour of the 125th anniversary of the death of Bavarian King Ludwig II at the shore of Starnberger See lake on June 13, 2011 in Berg, Germany. Hundreds of people participated in the event to commemorate Ludwig, who was also known as Fairytale King Ludwig for his eccentricities that included the construction of elaborate palaces and castles, most notably Schloss Neuschwanstein. Ludwig drowned in Starnberger See in 1886. The state of Bavaria is marking the anniversary of his death with a series of events throughout the year.
