in Historic First, Florida Democrat Gathers Signatures To Get On Ballot

Democratic Senate candidate Kendrick Meek (D-FL) (L) walks with his wife, Leslie Meek, and children Kendrick Meek Jr. and Lauren Meek after delivering a box of voter petitions to the Miami-Dade Supervisor of Elections office on March 29, 2010 in Doral, Florida. Kendick Meek is the first ever statewide candidate to qualify for the ballot by petition after collecting more than 140,000. The state allows a candidate to pay a roughly $10,000 filing fee, or collect 112,476 valid petitions from registered Florida voters, regardless of party affiliation or non-affiliation. Meek will face off against the winner of the Republican primary Florida Governor Charlie Crist or Marco Rubio.
