Government Announce Its Policy On Gurkha Settlement Rights
Former Gurkha solider sand VC holders, Tulbahadur Pun (l) and Laximan Gurung sit outside the Houses of Parliament after hearing the Government's new criteria for Gurkha veterans to live in the UK on April 24, 2009 in London, England. The government today announced measures that will allow a further 4,300 more Gurkhas to stay in the UK out of a possible 36,000 who have served in the armed forces prior to July 1997. The move is likely to disappoint campaigners who have fought to secure residency rights for all former Gurkha soldiers.
