Scooter Sales On The Rise As Gas Prices Skyrocket

Party due to the rise in fuel prices, the use of scooters and bicycles for New York commuters has risen significantly over the past few years. With some scooters getting up to 70 miles per gallon, Vespa USA in New York City says its May sales were up 105 percent compared with the same month in 2007. Between 2000 and 2006, the number of bike commuters has increased by 100%, according to the Mayors office. The NY department of transportation would like to double the count again by 2015.
