Tuttle said the 12-gauge pump-action shotgun was specifically designed to work with the X236 law enforcement model Taser so there would be no possibility of accidentally loading it with lethal ammunition. The shotgun fires what is called an extended range electronic projectile (XREP) 75-100 feet - three times farther than a normal Taser - and is not tethered to the gun. The new system can work with any 12-gauge shotgun and will be available for law enforcement personnel in March 2009.
