Lawyers for the three Islamic militants on death row over the 2002 Bali bombings today legally raised a new challenge to their upcoming executions.

The lawyer for the killers, Mahendradatta has argued that "the convicted terrorists could suffer unnecessary pain if they do not die immediately" when the lethal punishment is carried out.

This is just another attempt to delay the executions of the three psychopaths - Amrozi, his brother Mukhlas and Imam Samudra. The three are due to be executed at any time now for their part in the 2002 Bali bombings, which killed 202 people, 88 of which were Australians.

If the first bullet from the Indonesian firing squad does not kill them instantly, then they will be shot a second time to ensure the job is done properly.

Amrozi's defence lawyers have said that he will most probably feel pain until he is shot a second time (if the first bullet does not kill him).

They went on to say, "Amrozi was sentenced to death, not to be tortured. On Tuesday or Wednesday at least we will submit a material challenge to the Constitutional Court about this law."

"We will seek the execution without pain - we have to encourage the government and legislators to find a way to execute without pain,'' he added.

The three terrorists have never expressed remorse for their non-Muslim victims of the Bali bombings which they organized. These latest comments have sparked anger among the families of the 202 victims killed along with the survivors, and rightly so!

In the past, lawyers for the three have launched various legal challenges when their executions have drawn near, which has resulted in delays.

"Security is tight around their island prison home as authorities continue with their preparations for the execution.

Bambang Winahyo, the head of Central Java's Justice Office, said authorities were expecting about 15 supporters of the Islamic hardliners to try to reach Nusakambangan Island, off Central Java.

"We are coordinating with police to guard the Wijayapura port," he said.

"Only those who have a relationship with Amrozi, like their families and lawyers, will be allowed in. The others cannot - journalists also are not allowed to see them."

He said no extra security was needed "because the prison itself is already in the middle of the sea."

Bali prosecutors had visited Batu prison to again ask whether the three would seek clemency from the president but were told by the head of the facility that "the three of them have rejected clemency'', he added

PETE'S OPINION

As a personal friend of victim/s of the 2002 bombings, and after seeing the severe burns and months of rehabiliation needed by survivors, along with the despair of families who lost loved ones, I need to question why anyone should be concerned with any of these gutless mongrels suffering some pain upon their execution. They certainly didn't show any concern for the pain endured by their innocent victims and still to this day have no remorse.

These men say they wish to be martyrs - but according to one recent revision of the original translation of the Koran - it’s not 72 doe-eyed virgins that await them - but a bunch of grapes!!

I'd agree that eating grapes can be heavenly! But I think for these guys - its going to be all sour grapes - no virgins for them.

Three Bali bombers have exhausted their appeals and will soon be executed by firing squad, according to Indonesia's attorney general.

Imam Samudra and the brothers Amrozi and Ali Ghufron have never shown any remorse for the 2002 bombings and have repeatedly said that they embrace death and wish to be martyrs.

Indonesia's attorney general Henderman Supanji, in announcing that no further legal avenues are available to the condemned men, said, "the process would not be drawn out".

The bombers' lawyer, Fahmi Bachmid, said afterwards: "All of them have repeatedly said they will only ask pardon from God, not the president. This is their faith."

Indonesia does not announce the exact timing of executions before they are carried out.

The sentence will be carried out on or near the island of Java, overseen by the Bali prosecutor, Dewa Putu Alit Adnyana.

"I've already prepared the team to deal with the execution. We're ready whenever," he said.

Co-ordinated car bombs near nightclubs created an inferno killing 202 people in 2002. Australians, 88 of whom died, were the largest national group among the victims. The dead also included 24 Britons.

Thirty people were convicted in connection with the attack, perpetrated by Jemaah Islamiyah (JI), a mostly Indonesian terrorist group linked to al-Qaeda.

However, a the father of one of their victims on Friday pleaded for their lives.

"Nothing will return my son to me, to his mother, his family and his friends," Brian Deegan, an Australian lawyer, wrote in an open letter to Indonesian authorities. His son Joshua was among the dead.

"I see that no good will come from their execution. I see only harm."

He said that both he and Joshua opposed the death penalty in all cases.

The government of Indonesia – the world's most populous Muslim country- has been widely praised for its success in suppressing the group.

JI has not struck since 2005 when suicide bombs killed 20 people, once again on Bali.

Mahendradatta, who goes by a single name, said he would file a petition next week at the Constitutional Court arguing that convicts who go before a firing squad sometimes do not die immediately, causing unnecessary suffering.

"We're seeking an execution without pain," said the lawyer, who in the past has argued that his clients would prefer to be beheaded, which they say is more in line with Islamic teachings.

Ali Ghufron, Imam Samudra and Amrozi Nurhasyim were convicted in 2003 of planning and helping to carry out the Oct. 12 suicide bombings targeting two packed nightclubs on Bali island, killing 202 people, mostly foreign tourists.

The three, who have admitted taking part in the attacks, already have exhausted the appeals process.

Attorney General spokesman Bonaventura Daulat Nainggolan declined to say whether the petition would result in an automatic last-minute stay in their executions, which authorities have said would likely be carried out before September.

Mahendradatta acknowledged the executions could well go ahead even if the case was lodged at the Constitutional Court, but said it would be "murder" if they did.

The Bali attacks were carried out by members and associates of Jemaah Islamiyah, a local network of mostly Afghan trained militants, with al-Qaida providing money and some expertise, police and former militants have said.

Islamic militants have carried out three other major attacks on Western targets in Indonesia since then, the last in 2005, also on Bali, when three suicide bombers killed 21 people in restaurant attacks.

Muslim Cleric Fears American Justice

Once upon a time way before the man from Texas became president of the United States, people in the world looked to America as a land in which an individual could receive a fair trial. Radical Muslim cleric Abu Hamza al-Masri lost his appeal to block extradition from the United Kingdom to America where he is accused of trying to set up an al-Qaeda camp as well as other charges of inciting terrorism. HIs lawyers argued to send him to the United States would be “unjust and oppressive” because of the length of time since the dates to which the charges against him relate–1999 and 2000. They also do not believe he could receive a fair trial and that information being used against him by American legal authorities was obtained via use of torture.

British judges saw no reason to oppose the extradition request. The Egyptian born cleric who applauded the 9/11 attacks and was involved in plotting the capture of 16 Western hostages in Yemen is undoubtedly a man of violence. However, he does raise questions concerning the possibility he could receive a fair trial in the United States. Perhaps, one step in clarifying the fairness of American justice is to close down the Guantanamo prison and either release its prisoners or place them on trial in a civil court.

RABIAH HUTCHINSON, the Mudgee-born grandmother accused of being the "grand dame" of extremist jihadis in Australia, says she has limited sympathy for the victims of the Bali bombings because those holidaying on the Indonesian island engaged in pedophilia and drug taking.

And her close friend, Raisah bint Alan Douglas, another Australian convert to radical Islam who also married a suspected terrorist supporter, has praised Osama bin Laden, saying he followed a "correct" version of Islam.

The women are featured in a documentary to be aired on ABC television tonight, Jihad Sheilas.

Ms Hutchinson is a former hippie who converted to Islam in Indonesia in 1973. Ms Douglas also hails from country NSW, Dubbo, and has been married five times to Muslim men, including her current husband Omar Abdi Mohamed, a suspected terrorist financier who was deported from the US.

Ms Hutchinson was schooled by the leaders of Jemaah Islamiah, Abdullar Sungkar and Abu Bakar Bashir, at one time marrying the head of JI's Australian wing in the 1990s.

"I have the greatest respect for them," she said of the two men, adding she believed Abu Bakar Bashir was not involved in the Bali attacks which killed 202 people, including 88 Australians.

"Do I feel for the people who died? Not as much as for those 200 Afghani people that gave me and my children shelter," she said. "Why? Because they were holidaying in someone's country, sometimes engaging in child pornography or pedophilia or drug taking."

The 200 Afghans Ms Hutchinson referred to were villagers who she said were massacred by US-led forces following the September 11, 2001, attacks because they refused to give her up to the authorities.

Ms Hutchinson had taken her six children to Taliban-controlled Afghanistan to experience a pure Islamic state.

While Ms Hutchinson wants to leave the country but cannot, Ms Douglas retains her passport and normally lives in Kenya with her fifth husband.

Ms Douglas spoke openly of her admiration for bin Laden. He followed the "correct" and "undiluted" version of Islam, she said. "It's not a bad thing for Islam, what Osama bin Laden has said. I believe that he has woken a lot of Muslims up to the oppression they were under but didn't realise it."

Both women, according to Ms Hutchinson's solicitor, are furious about the documentary, believing they were misled into taking part.
