Bharti Airtel rings on good Q1 numbers

Bharti Airtel gained 2.70% to Rs 838 at 10:25 IST on BSE on reporting 44.86% surge in net profit to Rs 2046.79 crore on 39.73% increase in revenue to Rs 7952.32 crore in Q1 June 2008 over Q1 June 2007.

The company announced the results before trading hours today, 24 July 2008.

Meanwhile, the BSE Sensex was up 90.51 points, or 0.61%, to 15,032.79, as oil prices dropped sharply on Wednesday, 23 July 2008, after the US government data showed a big increase in US inventories of gasoline.

On BSE, 5.16 lakh shares were traded in the counter. The scrip had an average daily volume of 7.44 lakh shares in the past one quarter.

The stock hit a high of Rs 861 and a low of Rs 834.30 so far during the day. The stock had a 52-week high of Rs 1149 on 10 October 2007 and a 52-week low of Rs 688 on 1 July 2008.

The large-cap company had outperformed the market over the past one month till 23 July 2008, gaining 8.71% compared to the Sensex’s return of 5.92%. It had also outperformed the market in the past one quarter, declining 3.34% compared to Sensex’s decline of 10.64%.

The company has an equity capital of Rs 1898.02 crore. Face value per share is Rs 10.

The current price of Rs 838 discounts its Q4 March 2008 annualised EPS of Rs 37.77, by a PE multiple of 22.19.

As per Indian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (IGAAP), Bharti Airtel reported a 52.13% surge in consolidated net profit to Rs 2166.68 crore on 43.82% increase in total income to Rs 8567.58 crore in Q1 June 2008 over Q1 June 2007.

As per United States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP), the company’s net profit rose 33.96% to Rs 2025 crore on 43.67% growth in total revenue to Rs 8483.3 crore in Q1 June 2008 over Q1 June 2007.

In May 2008, Bharti Airtel called off talks with the South African telecom major, MTN, to explore the possibility of a merger between the two emerging markets telecom giants.

Bharti Airtel provides mobile telecommunication services in India. It also provides fixed-line, VSAT, Internet and broadband services.

Yesterday we heard that over 22 countries will be getting the Apple iPhone 3G on July 11, we also heard that around another 40 countries will be getting the new iPhone after that date. This goes to show you the power of the iPhone and how it will rule not only the phone world but also carrying on with being one of the most used phones for browsing the web. India will also be getting the iPhone 3G and this is a country with over one billion people. It will be through Bharti Airtel in India and they are India’s leading telecom operator.

It will be later this year when India gets the 3G iPhone and they too will benefit from 3G networking that is twice as fast when compared to the first generation iPhone, they will also get built-in GPS and all the extras in the iPhone 2.0 software. This shows that the latest technology is being taken to nearly every corner of the world.

The president and CEO of Bharti Airtel has this to say “We are delighted with the opportunity to bring the innovative iPhone 3G to India,’ and then went on to say “As India’s leading telecom operator, Bharti Airtel has always stood for innovation and customer delight.

Four Asia-Pacific mobile providers - Singapore Telecommunications Ltd.,
Bharti Airtel Ltd., Globe Telecom Inc. and SingTel subsidiary Optus
Monday - said Monday they have signed an agreement with Apple Inc. to
offer the iphone in their respective markets later this year.
SingTel will sell the multimedia gadget in Singapore, Bharti Airtel Ltd. in
India, Globe Telecom Inc. in the Philippines and Optus in Australia,
the companies said in a brief joint statement, without giving details.SingTel owns Optus and holds a 30.5 percent stake in Bharti and 44.5 percent in Globe. As of Dec. 31, 2007, SingTel had about 2.3 million mobile subscribers in Singapore and around 7 million in Australia. Bharti currently has about 64 million subscribers, while Globe reported a 21.3 million mobile subscriber base for the quarter ended March 31.The announcement comes as Apple looks to expand sales of the iPhone - a combination phone, music player and Web browser - that was launched in the U.S. in 2007.On Wednesday, America Movil, the top mobile phone operator in Latin America, said it inked a deal to bring the iPhone to more than a dozen countries in that region starting later this year.Apple has so far signed exclusive deals for the
iPhone with AT&T Inc. in the United States, O2 in Britain, T-Mobile in Germany and France Telecom's Orange wireless arm in France. The American company has also in the past few weeks signed deals to sell the device in Canada as well as in Italy, while Vodafone Group PLC, the world's biggest mobile company by sales, will sell it in a total of 10 countries, including Australia, India, Italy and Turkey.

STD call at 1.5 Rs from Bharti Airtel - Roaming cost Rs 1 per minute

India technology news: 28-4-2008: Good news Bharti Airtel subscribers who make STD calls for long duration. Now you can talk more with your beloved ones and need not to watch the clock agaih & again. Bharti Airtel the private telecom operator slashed its mobile STD rates and incoming roaming charges.

According to the new tariffs plans, STD would now be charged at the rate of Rs. 1.50 per minute from its previous price of Rs 2.65/per minute and incoming roaming would cost Re 1 per minute.

The new tariffs would be applicable from 30th April onwards.

Millions of Bharti Airtel customers will get the benefit from this.
