Bonsai Tree History and Culture

posted by tomstateler
By Tyler Flemming
From its origins as a Chinese art form over 2,000 years ago, the bonsai tree remains an object of fascination that embraces both nature and art. Now, anyone can participate in the wonderful tradition of bonsai cultivation with the help of the internet. Everything you'll need to know about bonsai trees can be found online; where to buy, how to begin, growth and feeding, maintenance techniques, and the required tools and equipment. Growing bonsai trees is the perfect relaxation for enthusiasts at any level.

Over many years, Japan and China began to incorporate aspects of their unique cultures together and the bonsai tree was one of the many things that were merged into the highly cultured country of Japan. Initially, only Buddhist monks engaged in this artistic production form, yet eventually, the aristocracy took up the bonsai fine art and it became a status symbol for a long time. After this time and for many, many years afterward, the artistic production of bonsai lay solely within the Japanese culture. As years passed and Japan began to open up its doors to other countries, bonsai fine art became highly sought after in North America for its peace of mind and beauty.

You've surely seen the beautiful Bonsai tree someplace in your life, even if only watching Mr. Miagi in the Karate Kid. It's probably likely that if there's a Japanese restaurant in your city or neighborhood, then you've seen them there. The artistry and commitment that it takes to plant and do the necessary maintenance with a Bonsai Tree is enormous, and sometimes much as well daunting for those with a green thumb. Bonsais are dwarf-potted plants that have been cultivated for centuries by the Chinese and Japanese. Since the end of World War II, this artistic production has become a great hobby and pastime in the United States. It not only takes patience to properly grow a bonsai, but also a good amount of artistic accomplishment as well. It's time-consuming, and there is a lot more to it than one might think.

Contrary to popular opinion, bonsai trees aren't genetically modified. They're regular trees or shrubs that are unnaturally stunted by pruning their roots and tying their branches with wire. The artistry originated in China, and was adapted by the Japanese early in the second millennium. Miniaturization is accomplished through strict regulation of a bonsai trees growing conditions. Scaffold branches are chosen early on as the only branches to be allowed to prosper, while the extra branches are mercilessly pruned off. Bonsai trees are intentionally allowed to become root-bound in their containers, and the roots, likewise, are pruned. But root-bound plants won't thrive forever in that condition and bonsai trees must be re-potted every two or three years to leave the roots with new soil.

A bonsai, thus, is a surviving fine art form that continually changes throughout the life of the tree. It is a combination of both horticultural and artistic skills and you may well have these skills without realizing it. Practice as much as possible and you will shortly have your own collection of miniature trees that will improve over the years and leave you with hours of joy.
Bonsai Supplies...Make or Break?

posted by tomstateler
By Rick Lasslett
It can be daunting when first exploring the available information on growing Bonsai trees. You may be tempted to think it's all too hard or too complicated. So you may just give up before you even start, or not continue with your existing project. One secret is to use a good reliable source of Bonsai supplies and just DO IT.

Its more than just a skill to grow beautiful ongoing Bonsai, its an artform. But need to learn those skills before you can call yourself a master of the art. One of the necessary steps in the process is to use supplies that are of good quality. If your supplies are inferior it wont help your efforts to achieve the results you're aiming for.

With the right supplies readily available, this is one area of your project that is already taken care of. Now you can concentrate on the job at hand and not be limited by a lack of the proper Bonsai supplies, be that soil mix, fertiliser, tools, wire or whatever is necessary to do the job!

Proper Bonsai supplies meansjust that. Bonsai supplies that are appropriate for the job and of good quality. The last thing you want is for your tree to die because your soil mixture doesn't drain well, or you need to prune immediately, but you find your shears are rusty and blunt.

You may think that it is not that important but I bet your plants would disagree with you.

Of course I am not suggesting that you will fail to achieve a beautiful result unless you have everything you need readily available and of top quality. What is more important is the desire to learn the techniques and the patience to put them into practice until you have mastered the art.

There will be failures that will disappoint you, but the successes will more than compensate for those times. The sheer pleasure of turning an otherwise ordinary tree into a proper Bonsai tree is what will keep you going.

Your Bonsai supplies will then be just another addition to your library of knowledge on the subject. If someone asks you about how to grow Bonsai you will be able to answer with authority as you will know what works and what doesn't.
Marriage Cannot Be Repaired - Tips On Divorce Filing

posted by tomstateler
By A R Thompson
The whole process that one needs to go through when filing for divorce can be extremely confusing and painful for all parties concerned. However, if you know what to expect before, whilst the divorce is taking place and after it has completed will help make it much easier for all to deal with. Below we provide a number of tips on divorce filing, which you may find useful if you should need to go this route in the future.

1. Know Your Rights - It is vital that you know exactly what your rights are and have an equal say in what happens with the assets that you and your partner have accumulated over the years. In addition, you need to know exactly what your rights are with regards to access to see your children during the divorce process and once it has completed. If you do not know, exactly what your rights are then you should find out as much as possible before you actually proceed with filing for divorce.

2. Know The Divorce Process - Before you even actually start filing for divorce you should first have a clear understanding of the whole process. Therefore, take a little time out to sit down and actually look at and understand the two different types of divorce processes you can file for.

Today when it comes to filing for divorce you have a choice between going for an "Absolute Divorce" or a "Limited Divorce". With the absolute process this takes some considerable time to complete, but at the end the couple in question are once again single people and have the right to marry again in the future. As for those who choose to use the limited divorce process although they are now leading separate lives they do not have the right to marry another. Some couples prefer to use this process as a way of trying to see if they can fix the problems they are facing before making their divorce final and absolute.

3. Get The Best Lawyer You Can - Going through the process of divorce is extremely painful and stressful and can be made far worse if the person uses a lawyer who has no understanding of the process. Look for those lawyers who will not charge excessively high fees and who understands all the important issues regarding division of assets and matters relating to the children. If you are able to then employ, a lawyer who specifically deals in divorce matters.

4. Get A Break Down Of Their Costs - Before you actually go with any particular lawyer ask them to provide you with a approximation of what the whole divorce process is likely to cost you. Ask them to explain their fees in relation to phone calls, meetings and letters that they may need to write. Remember they are working for you and money is going to be an issue at this time so you do not want to be faced with any unexpected or untoward expenses at the end when the divorce has been finalized.

5. Understand The Terms Of Your Divorce - If at any stage you are unsure of any of the terms that are to be agreed in the divorce proceedings then ask your lawyer to clarify them for you. Also, as each portion of the divorce petition is handed to you for your signature do not sign it before you have read it even if your lawyer says everything is okay. So be careful as you fill out all the paperwork and that you understand all the terms being stated within the document.

The tips that have been provided above with regard to filing for divorce should help you to understand the whole process a little more. But along with these tips on divorce filing, it is important that throughout the whole process, you keep in constant contact with your lawyer and if at any stage, you have problems understanding something then talk to them immediately.
Call the Babysitter? Mom's Going to the Spa

posted by tomstateler
By Dr. Noel Swanson
With a hectic family life, most of us will never be able to find the time for a full, pampering spa treatment. But that doesn't mean you can't indulge in a shorter treatment, say a facial and a massage. As Mother's Day approaches, think of how great it would be for mom to be able to enjoy some relaxation. Give her a gift certificate to the spa.

A facial leaves you with a feeling that is hard to duplicate. Afterwards you will feel completely clean and refreshed. When you also get a massage, it makes the whole world seem like a better place. You can close your eyes and listen to beautiful music in a softly lit room as you enjoy your escape.

A few things you should know if this is your first visit to the spa. It is recommended that you enjoy the hot tubs, steam rooms and saunas before your massage in order to start the relaxation process. If you are also getting a facial, it will also help to make your skin softer and speed the exfoliation process.

If you can, get both the facial and massage. Not everyone is comfortable removing their clothes for their massage, the first time. But, the massage center will give you sheets and other items to cover your body. Remember, these are professionals you are working with, and they understand your concerns. Also remember to drink a lot of water before you go to your appointment so you will not dehydrate during your sauna time. It has an added bonus of helping your body in cleansing.

The experience of a spa is relaxing, refreshing and rejuvenating. You can always discuss your concerns with the professional beforehand. This will not only ease your mind, but relax you before the massage. The idea is to enjoy the whole experience. And, if you can put your hesitations aside, you will really feel on top of the world after the massage.

So get up and get going.
