Boy Scouts: Helping young boys, one molestation at a time.

posted by PJI

The Young Fascists of America, or a more familiar term, the Boy Scouts of America are in the news again. Not for denying entry to a gay kid, or a minority or anything like that, nothing asinine like that this time. No, this time they are in the news for molestation, and keeping records of such molestation. Suddenly that Spelunking Merit Badge has a whole new meaning.

Anyway I present to the Boy Scouts my own merit badge, the Molestation Merit Badge. Seems this kind of behavior is relatively routine thing so they may as well have a way of announcing the accomplishment. Enjoy.

Out.

Little Sioux Scout Ranch restoration

posted by jeanieBee117
After the deadly June 11 tornado, which took the lives of four young Boy Scouts, restoration projects for the Little Sioux Scout Camp are being organized.

The tornado destroyed much of the camp and damaged thousands of trees. Work will also be started on the 25 miles of trails on the property which need to be cleared of the debris left from the storm. The restoration project includes reforestation, road reconstruction, rebuilding the Scout ranger's house which was totally demolished, and construction of new shelters.

Seven teams are working on restoring the camp at this time. However it's unknown how long the cleanup will take. So far, the Mid- America Boy Scout Council has received $174,000 in donations to restore the camp. In addition to the restoration, a memorial is being planned in honor of the four Boy Scounts who died there and the boys who were injured during the June 11, 2008 tornado.

If you'd care to send a donation to help restore the Little Sioux Scout Ranch please send to:

Mid-America Council
Attn: Little Sioux Recovery
12401 West Maple Road
Omaha, Nebraska 68164

Lets get those young scouts back to their ranch.

The Complete List of Camping Gear for Boy Scouts

posted by Luvi

Boy scouts go for outdoor camping all the time. Their activities include canoeing, swimming, boat riding, fishing, and many more. Before you become a member, you need to have a complete set of uniform as well as the necessary camping gear for boy scouts. Although the items may be different from one troop to another, most of the things needed are the same. The equipment a boy scout needs to bring depends on the place where they are going to camp out.

Below is the complete list of camping gear for boy scouts. They are all the necessary items to bring for camping. But if you wish to have more gear, then you can do so by checking the market on what is nice to have. After all, it is not the gear that matters, but the training and experience you have been into.

Personal Items to Put in Your Backpack

Personal items cannot be eliminated as a camping gear for boy scouts. Even if you are away from home, you need to bring the necessary things to make you feel comfortable. Remember to take lightweight items as much as possible; and bring the smaller ones so they can easily snuggle inside your baggage.

The sleeping gear comes first in our list since boy scouts need cushioning from the twigs and branches of tress. This gear includes items such as mattress and blanket; pillows are not advised since they are huge and bulky. Next is the eating gear which includes items such as a bowl, spoon and fork, and a plastic cup. It is also very important to have a complete clothing gear which consists of night shorts, pajamas, underwear, socks, sweatshirt, raincoat, toothbrush, towels and trash bags. All these items can fit in your backpack just remember to bring only the basics and the essentials.

The Troop's List of Essentials

Camping gear for boy scouts can never be perfect without the troop's list of requirements. The essentials depend on your campground and also depend on the weather that you will be expecting. Keep in mind that even if this is the entire troop's obligation, it is still required that you all help so that there would be a complete camping gear for boy scouts. The list includes: tent shelter, water and food, complete kitchen utensil, rain tarps, clean-up supplies, and first aid kit. Again, remember that lightweight items are the best options to bring. When these are all prepared and counterchecked, you are ready to face the nature and have fun on the outdoors.

Should You Let Your Child Join the Boy Scouts?

posted by Luvi

Are the parent of a male child? If you are, your child may come across a local Boy Scouts group that is looking for new members. If your child is like many others, their interest may peak. While a large number of parents give their boys permission to join the Boy Scouts of America without any thought, you may be looking for more information. If you are, you will want to continue reading on, as a number of Boy Scout benefits are outlined below for your convenience.

When examining the Boy Scouts of America, you will find that they have a code that they aim to live by. These codes are commonly referred to as the "Aims of Scouting." For instance, you will find that the Boy Scouts have a motto, slogan, oath, outdoor code, law, sign, and salute. Each of these are adapted to instill values in your child. For instance, when examining the outdoor code, you will find that it prompts Boy Scouts to be conservation minded and careful with the outdoors, especially where fires are concerned. These are values that all children can benefit from.

In keeping with values, your child can also learn the value of leadership and teamwork, when joining the Boy Scouts of America. The Boy Scouts participate in an unlimited number of activities, both on the local and national levels. These activities may include community fundraisers, sporting events, and camping trips. Each activity has a specific goal and moral behind it. For instance, with community fundraisers or community volunteer projects, your child will learn the importance of staying active in the community, as well as the importance of helping others in their times of need.

The activities that your child will get to participate in, once becoming an active member of the Boy Scouts of America, is just another one of the many benefits to joining. As previously stated, the Boy Scouts participate in an unlimited number of activities each year. These activities not only instill respectable values in your child, but they are also fun and exciting. Activities enjoyed by many Boy Scout groups commonly include camping, outdoor sports, construction projects, and much more. Many of these experiences are ones that your child may not otherwise get to participate in.

The above mentioned benefits are just a few of the many Boy Scouts benefits. If you are still unsure as to whether or not the Boy Scouts of America is the right fit for your child, you may want to seek additional information. This information is easy to come by online, as the Boy Scouts of America has their own online website. You can also learn more about the Boy Scouts of America, namely your local chapters, by speaking with local volunteers or adult leaders. Many local chapters volunteer throughout your community and have local signups. You may also want to contact your local school district for more information on how to get into contact with nearby Boy Scout leaders.

As an additional benefit, it is important to note that the Boy Scouts of America is ideal for boys between the ages of seven and twenty. Unfortunately, this is an important point that not all parents are aware of. Many parents, especially those unfamiliar with the Boy Scouts, associate the organization with elementary school aged children. There are various Boy Scout membership divisions, such as Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting, and Venturing that are designed for school aged children and young adults, of all ages.
