posted by pvthudson
So I got up fairly early Saturday morning to get some stuff done, and thought about heading out to run some early morning errands until I got the weather feed on my computer.

“Fair”
“Feels like -19”

Holy crap. I really don’t think I will be going anywhere in that. That is just too much even for someone like me who despises summer. So in I sit, surfing the web and catching up on the cool stuff I may have missed the past couple of days.

First thing was this story on Shack News about Left 4 Dead, which looks damn cool. Basically the premise of this game is:

“…four human players band together to survive a zombie outbreak, while four other players take control of the zombies themselves. Computer-controlled bots can take the place of real opponents if need be.”

That works for me! Expect the title in August or September. Turtle Rock and Valve are working on it so expect goodness. You can read more over at Gamespot as well, which has some in game footage and video.

I reached level 10 in Dungeon Runners Wednesday, but didn’t have time to play anything else since early in the week. Went over to a friends Friday night and this weekend of course is football championship weekend so my Sunday is shot. Working for a bank however gives me Martin Luther King Day off. That rounds me into a nice 3 day weekend that I really need to take advantage of. With WoW off my radar now (not even playing horde could rekindle it) I have once again been bouncing around games in a bad manner and really start to see how much I depend on World of Warcraft to give me entertainment. That game was like comfort food due to its content and ease of play, but then again Tabula Rasa was starting to get like that as well. Before my time runs out on that account I may have to jump back in and blow the crap out of some things. I was thinking of going back to EQ2 but I find it terribly boring. In fact I am sick of most fantasy games unless they provide constant action like Dungeon Runners or Mythos. I just want Diablo 3, that’s all I ever ask for is it so wrong???

So with all this nothingness going on and Pirates of the Burning Sea teaching me to be a better economist, I am left with Dungeon Runners and a dwindling account of Tabula Rasa which runs out shortly. Diving into Pirates takes a certain mind frame for me, but I do love running missions in that game. Something about being out in the open sea on my own vessel that makes it fun. In EVE Online it was firing missiles and using warp speed, in this game it’s sailing and firing barrages of cannon fire into enemy ship decks.

Nothing too exciting right? Lets put up a random video. Today let’s have a little Finger Eleven "Falling On". A bit poppy for me but for some reason I really like this song. Plus I like the video and I have always wanted to float in the middle of a giant Burger King Kids Land ball pit. More later after the football playoffs.

"Chunky" Runner

posted by pvthudson
Real quick announcement about a Dungeon Runners update today from Blues News, which I will repost here:

"Austin, Texas, August 29, 2007–NCsoft® announced today the release of Dungeon Runners’™ first feature expansion, Chunk #1, an ambitious content update that includes player-versus-player (PvP) worlds, support for multiple characters, item linking over its chat system, a new high level dungeon, and a variety of new skills and quests. Most of the features in Chunk #1 are available to all active Dungeon Runners players except for a new set of exclusive member-only servers that will come online with the new expansion release.

Dungeon Runners is a free to download and play online multiplayer role playing game in a fast-paced sword-and-shield setting, where defeating monsters and evil enemies results in piles of loot and treasure. Topping the features of Chunk #1 is PvP action. The Dungeon Runners PvP worlds eliminate all player-versus-environment tasks, focusing solely on player-versus-player combat in a variety of maps and settings. Chunk #1 provides two PvP session types including group practice PvP, which focuses on small PvP free-for-all maps where players can hone their battle skills without a time limit; and group-versus-group death match PvP, which automatically pits similarly powered groups in seven-minute matches.

“The introduction of PvP combat to Dungeon Runners rounds out the features that MMO players expect to see in their RPG games,” said Stephen Nichols, NCsoft’s producer and lead programmer for Dungeon Runners. “Even though we provide most of our game for free, we are still able to regularly deliver large blocks of feature content and this is just the first of many additions to the game our players will see. Chunk #1, which includes PvP, will add a whole bunch of new content that will give every one of our players new challenges and new opportunities to have fun.”

Chunk #1 will also give players up to three characters for each account created so they can play multiple characters in a variety of shapes, sizes and sexes. “It is common in MMOs for boys to be girls and vise-versa,” said Nichols. “With multiple character slots, our players can take on whatever roles they like, depending on their mood.” Additionally, Chunk #1 includes 70 new quests, several new armor sets and many new skills, including teleport, heal self and a skill that improves a weapon’s slashing ability, called “awesome cleavage.”

A new, tough dungeon for level 75-100 players has been added where new quests, monsters and an all-new boss can be found. Chunk #1 will also allow players to trade items over their chat windows, which gives other players the ability to see the name and attributes of the items up for trade. This content update also includes improvement to player controls which reduces movement delays."
