Eddie Arnold Dies

Former country singer Eddy Arnold died Thursday morning at a care facility in Nashville, Tennessee. He was 89-years-old, and one week away from his 90th birthday.

Arnold was known as a pioneer of "Nashville Sound," a mix of country, folk and pop. His first No.1 hit was 1947's "What Is Life Without Love." His most recent album was released in 2005, and titled "After All These Years.

Arnold is survived by his son, Richard Edward Arnold Jr. and daughter Jo Ann Pollart, both from Brentwood, a suburb of Nashville. His wife of 66 years, Sally, died in March.

Country music star Eddy Arnold died Thursday near Nashville just shy of his 90th birthday. Measured in terms of hit recordings, he was the most successful country artist of all time, selling 85 million records in a career that spanned from the Great Depression to 2005, when he released his last album.
