“Play driving games!” If you don’t know how to use or drive a car and then play driving games. This is my hobby ever since I was in high school level. I was not actually a driver and I really don’t know how to drive but playing driving games online really feel me great. Even though in reality I really don’t know how to drive cars, playing it online really makes me feel that I’m a good driver and a racer. In Sailormoon anime, Minako or Sailor Venus is the one who play great in driving games or car racing game. Think you can beat her in car racing arcade battle? Nope she is the queen in this field. The driving game that I like is Need For Speed. Need for Speed game really requires good PC specification and it will not work if your PC is so slow. Let me just give you some of the best driving games which I think you will be familiar of :

Nissan PlayStation GT Academy Goes Live

Drivers of the world, start your engines – the GT Academy has arrived. The ultimate competitive driving test will begin on June 2nd when GT Academy goes live in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. The pan-European competition sees PlayStation and Nissan unite the worlds of virtual and real-life racing to make the dreams of aspiring race drivers a reality. The competition will run as follows:

Stage One: www.gtacademy.eu – 2nd June 2008 for seven weeks

The first phase of GT Academy will take place online with a giant Gran Turismo 5 Prologue tournament on PLAYSTATION Network. The competition will run for seven weeks and to enter, players must register their PLAYSTATION Network sign in ID on www.gtacademy.eu. The next time they play GT5 Prologue online they will be able to race in the GT Academy Time Trial where they will compete to be the fastest around the Eiger Nordwand track in a Nissan Fairlady 350Z.

Stage Two: National Final - July 2008

The fastest 20 drivers in each country will be invited to a national final to compete head to head on Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. The three fastest drivers from the final will win a seat at the…

Stage Three: GT Academy at Silverstone - 25 August 2008

The virtual gives way to tarmac as the fastest three drivers from each country travel to Silverstone, the home of British motor racing, to take part in the GT Academy - a real-life driving competition on the track itself. Competitors will not only have to prove their driving skills in a Nissan GT-R but will also be tested for their mental and physical skills in a series of tests.

The two fastest drivers from Silverstone then have the chance to enter a four month training programme to earn their racing licenses and take part in a real life race in a fully race prepared Nissan 350Z at the 24 Hour endurance event in Dubai in January 2009.

Speaking at Nürburgring 24H race, Kazunori Yamauchi, Head of Polyphony Digital producers of Gran Turismo said: “This is a very exciting day for Gran Turismo. The Gran Turismo story started 10 years ago with the ambition to make a racing game that gives players the ultimate driving simulation experience. The GT Academy is the ultimate realisation of this ambition taking the Gran Turismo experience to the next level.

Stephane Cottin, Vice President, Marketing and Strategy, for Nissan in Europe continued: “GT Academy is a first for the motoring industry. Never before has a competition of this scale been undertaken to unite the worlds of virtual and real-life racing. GT Academy sets the challenge to see if gamers can recreate their performance behind the wheel of a real racing car and on their journey be amongst the first in Europe to drive the GT-R on track.”

Grid on Xbox 360 & Playstation 3 Smashes Sony PS3 Exclusive Gran Turismo 5

Having spent a lot of time playing Gran Turismo 5 on the Sony PS3, I am really impressed with the realistic graphics and have enjoyed the gameplay. While it’s not perfect it was still one of my favorite racing games currently. Then I met Grid that is on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, this game Smashes the PS3 exclusive Gran Turismo 5 Prologue in all areas.

Yes, GT5 Prologue slightly has the edge on graphics but that’s where it stops. The moment you start playing Grid your impressed by it saying your name and the racing feels like a battlefield. As a FPS gamer who loves action, GRID fits nicely with me and takes you further into the driving seat of racing than any game before it.

When your after a realistic game that not only looks good, but gives you a feel for racing and just by clipping a corner, you get what you should…major damage to your car and some really bad handling. In GT5 Prologue you can smash into a car at 200MPH and just bounce of like a ping-pong ball, if they were after racing realism, then they are well off.

You got to get the right balance of gameplay and realism in all games and this is one reason COD4 has been so popular, what many gamers are after now (including myself) are both graphics and the thrill of realistic damage. In First Person Shooter games, this is a wall blowing apart from grenades and in racing games this is a car caving in under impact and driving conditions affected from these impacts.

With the full game of Gran Turismo 5 coming in 2009, lets hope they take that extra time to give the racing fans a lot more realistic gameplay and as such a more exciting race.

Sony PS3’s Grid vs Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (GT5): can you compare?

Around two weeks ago Mark posted a comparison video of the Sony PS3’s Grid vs Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (you can see that here), although it was very funny and at the same time biased, the video did touch on some good points. Can you really compare GT5 to Grid?

Gran Turismo has never really included major damage in their games and focused more on graphics, GT has ruled with best graphics in racing games for a long time. Having played both games, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is a very good game that can also be classed as a demo with the full GT5 coming in the next year. So to compare this game to Grid is a bit unfair, and personally the gameplay on Grid was a lot more fun and having damage gave you a lot more of what GT5 lacked.

Gamers saying, “I do not plan on crashing” when asked if they miss the damage on GT5, is just a poor excuse. If GT5 was aiming at realism in gameplay and graphics, it should of included damage and lets hope the upcoming full version will include this. Just 5 minutes playing Grid, you will find yourself playing with the unique crash feature. You can have so many chances at rewinding gameplay to get a second chance after crashing, and this feature can be turned off.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue still has the edge on graphics, but if we are talking gameplay, Grid is in another league and as a GT fan; I hope the full version of GT5 brings damage and a few other features.
