Fossella Will Not Seek Reelection

In a not so surprising decision, New York Congressman Vito Fossella has announced that he will not seek reelection in November.

After being cited for drunk driving and admitting to an extramarital affair with Laura Fay, a former Air Force official, oh yeah, and acknowledging that he has a daughter with the woman, Fossella has decided that it may not be such a great idea to run again. Wise decision.

Fossella will not resign immediately, and instead will stay on until his term is done in order to save House Republicans the burden of defending another seat. The party has lost three seats through expensive special elections since March.

The congressman stated in a letter to his constituents that his choice was extremely difficult, and that he needs to "concentrate on healing the wounds" that he's inflicted upon his family. Yeah, good luck with that. Women aren't exactly very forgiving when they find out their husbands have been living a secret life.

Fossella lives in Staten Island, where he is married (for now) with three children. He also has a 3-year-old daughter with Fay.

Republican representative Vito Fossella of Staten Island, announced that he had an extramarital affair with Laura Fay, and that the two of them have a 3-year-old love child.

In a statement Thursday, Fossella unleashed the details of his affair with Fay, a former Air Force Lieutenant colonel. This all comes after his May 1 arrest in Alexandria, Virginia, for drunken driving.

The 43-year-old is currently the only Republican representative from New York City, and if Fossella's personal life keeps going south, New York, will soon be represented solely by democrats.

Fossella decided to release information about his affair, after The Daily News reported that he had called Fay for help after his May 1 arrest, and had also told officers he was on his way to Fay's home to visit a sick daughter. Afterwards, rumors about his relationship with the woman have risen.

Although there is speculation over an end to the representative's decade long career in the House, Fossella has yet to address his political future, or whether he will seek re-election this fall.

Vito Fossella (R-NY) was arrested last week in Alexandria, Va., for drunken driving after a night of drinking in Washington with a friend. The two were asked to leave a Washington bar after Fossella's friend passed out in the bar, then fell onto a table, breaking the base. Vito Fossella, the last Republican to represent any part of New York City, has won relatively easy re-election battles in recent years, but this time around he could find himself in trouble. Fossella has outraised his top Democratic challenger by a wide margin, but he's also spent a lot of that money.

Representative Vito Fossella voted against for this bill. The final Senate rendering of the bill, which passed with a vote of 86-8 , still included language raising CAFE standards to 35 mpg by 2020. Representative Vito Fossella has voted in favor of amnesty for illegal aliens.

Apparently Vito Fossella wants out of his job representing Staten Island and is determined to let us know it. Fellow Republican Peter King penned an Op-Ed in the NY Daily News today to call for the Democrats to pass a bill that violates the rule of law and our Constitution, all in one shot.[14] Apparently, they are VERY good friends seeing as they have a 3-year-old daughter together. I imagine that his wife and three children (with his wife) are probably not at all happy today.[15]

God, I love scandals; and Rep. Vito Fossella’s is a great one: After getting pulled over for driving drunk, he had to admit he was on his way to see his “second family.” His mistress, with whom he has a love child (isn’t that an awesome expression), is a retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel by the name of Laura Fay. His statement (answering questions about my political future is the furthest from my mind) aside, Fossella was forced to resign anyway. He cried like a baby while doing so, because, of course, he’s feeling “very, very bad” about everything that happened.

Sure you do, you dipshit. It always sucks when you get caught, doesn’t it?

The funny part about all this is the discussion immediately after the arrest; apparently, opinions differed about whether he should resign or not. The Republican Party isn’t keen on a special election, for fear they’ll lose (you think?) and some would have preferred Fossella serve out his term until November. Okay, granted; the Republicans would like to buy some time, I can understand that. But honestly, people: driving drunk, having an affair that has lasted for years, having a child with the mistress, really, there’s only so much dirt you can sweep under the mat before the bulge starts showing.

Back to the old questions: why do so many politicians think they can get away with it? And when will we finally see one that stands up on the podium and declares: “Hell, yes, I did it, and I’m not sorry. Can you blame me for having an affair? Have you seen my wife?”
